Vangelis Papathanassiou RIP

He spent many years in Paris back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He formed "Aprhodite's child" in 1967 with Demis Roussos and Lukas Sideras. The band made it big and became famous with their songs "Rain and Tears", "End of the World", "I Want to Live", and "It's Five O'Clock". The musicality was really excellent.

Papathanassiou workerd with several French film makers composing music scores for their films. He practiced improvisation and played formal pieces he was a regular at a couple of church organs in Paris during off time.

This was all before he became famous as "Vangelis" after he moved to London.

It is said that Vangelis Papathanassiou died on 17 May 2022, aged 79 at a hospital in France while receiving treatment for COVID-19.

He composed the greatest concept album ever.

Maestro Vangelis Papathanassiou has now rejoined Mikis Theodorakis, Demis Roussos and other Greek musicians and composers in the Greek Musicians Paradise.
