Preppers need to buy their fave instant coffee because in the freezer, it will last indefinitely and on the shelf, instant coffee can last for 2-20 years. Whole beans only last for 6-9 months on the shelf and ground coffee only lasts for 3-5 months on the shelf. |

I am certain ground coffee lasts for much longer than 5 months. I know when I buy coffee pads the date on the package is usually the next year. And coffee pads are not packed tight as the coffee is in a normal package of ground coffee, which will cause them to lose their aroma sooner. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79470989 These positive factors resulting from coffee consumption listed by Johns Hopkins are mainly focusing on women but are likely valid for men as well. You could live longer Your body may process glucose (or sugar) better (less chance (to get diabetes type 2) You are less likely to develop heart failure You are less likely to develop Parkinson's disease Your liver will thank you (a few decades ago the consensus was your liver will curse you) Your DNA will be stronger (this one is quite spectacular, isn't it) Your odds of getting colon cancer will get way down You may decrease your risk of getting Alzheimer's disease You're not as likely to suffer a stroke [link to www.hopkinsmedicine.org (secure)] Healthline additionally also mentions these factors: Boosts energy levels Could support brain health May promote weight management Linked to a lower risk of depression May enhance athletic performance (very attractive!) [link to www.healthline.com (secure)] I guess you can see how stocking up on coffee may help you preserve your health in a post SHTF situation. You might even need less medical drugs? Someone watched a Dr. Eric Berg video earlier. Might be nice to reference the actual person you regurgitated this information from. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46960637 Yes, there is an ideal window of time in which to use it if you want the best-tasting cup. Stored over a long enough time, it will become less flavorful--but it will still be safe to consume and won't poison you. You can pop open a 10-year old sealed can or bag and brew a pot, if that's all you've got. It won't be the best coffee you've ever drunk, but if you're in circumstances where that's the only coffee available, I doubt you'll care much. |

You just mix it with hot water like you would freeze dried coffee. Has a shelf life of years, probably a decade or longer. Or just buy freeze dried. Probably has an eternal shelf life. |

I was just pointing out the health benefits of coffee but that doesn't mean there are no good or even better alternatives. But if you are a coffee aficionado there is no reason you should deny yourself the pleasure of a good cup of coffee even when and after the S has HTF, all the more as having to survive on an extremely restricted diet for weeks if not months or years is very hard and your health will deteriorate real fast. |

Probably has an eternal shelf life. Don't drink instant coffee, at least not as replacement for your standard cup of coffee. Instant coffee does not have the same qualities. Even the taste is not the same. I have a few coffee pads left in a package I bought about a month ago. The date on it says it is good until April 2023. This means it keeps at least a year (I don't know how long ago it was produced). Tightly packed ground coffee might last even longer. What more do you need? Few preppers store food for a year anyway. |

There's a guy who reviews MREs on youtube. His favorite coffee is WWII vintage coffee, instant, type 2. You can still mix it up drink it 75 years later. He says it still tastes great. He also says that the cigarettes that came in those are still not only smokable, but better than the ones they sell today in some cases. |
