Exercise Scenario

Developed in consultation with technical and
policy experts, the exercise scenario portrayed
a deadly, global pandemic involving an unusual
strain of monkeypox virus that first emerges in the
fictional country of Brinia and eventually spreads
globally. Later in the exercise, the scenario reveals
that the initial outbreak was caused by a terrorist
attack using a pathogen engineered in a laboratory
with inadequate biosafety and biosecurity
provisions and weak oversight. The exercise
scenario concludes with more than three billion
cases and 270 million fatalities globally. As part of
the scenario development process, NTI conducted
a virtual consultation with experts in December
2020. (See Appendix A for the list of participating
experts.)

Move 1 (occurring on June 5, 2022,

in scenario time) starts with an unusual outbreak of monkeypox in Brinia(population 250 million), with reports of 1,421 cases and four fatalities. There is no immediate evidence ofinternational spread, but the outbreak takes place during a national holiday with extensive domestic and international travel by Brinians. Because monkeypox is not naturally found in Brinia, local and international
experts consider this outbreak to be unusual. The Brinian government welcomes international outbreak
investigations and requests medical support from the WHO. Genome sequencing of monkeypox patient
samples reveals that the strain in Brinia contains mutations that make it resistant to existing vaccines.
The discussion that followed considered how the international system is postured to analyze initial indicators
of pandemic risk and to communicate appropriate warnings

Global Cumulative Cases close to 3.5 billions cases in 18 month, total deaths count 250 millions.

This plot might be the main reason why the stock markets collapsed yesterday, some took their marbles out of the game before a new round of insanity hits the whole world again.

It's likely been going around the world in certain communities for months if not years, in small numbers and they just started looking so they will find it. Most of those being tested will be the worst cases and most of those don't need hospitalizing and it clears up within a week or two. The communities it has been affected would just put it down as a STI, and not seek attention, especially as it is only generally affecting those parts of the body where they are being particularly 'intimate'.

Multiple Twitter posts have suggested that Microsoft founder Bill Gates had predicted the likelihood of a smallpox outbreak ahead of recently recorded cases of monkeypox in the U.S. and Europe.

The billionaire has spoken about the possibility of smallpox type virus being used as a bioterrorist weapon, accounts of which have been highlighted on social media.

Gates has been a common target of conspiracy theorists throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, often baselessly portrayed as an architect of the crisis.
