All of the preceeding return to normal raises prices via general supply and demand calculus. For the gas and oil industry to spin up that fast after at least a year of curtailed production costs money, period.

Secondly, and make no mistake, the "record profits" are also tied to inflation. Simply put, the money made by the petroleum industry isn't flat, it is also tied to inflation and market principles, e.g. the cost of inputs such as labor, tooling, transportation, and third party goods and services, all of which were affected by COVID shut-downs, and, well in a bit of irony, the cost of oil.

Thats the problem. If we isolate our energy from the rest of the world(sovereignty), our energy prices would be lower.

I'd have to se the bill. It's probably 3000 pages long, nobody read it. Not even the people that voted on it. It's probably 98% shit that has nothing to do with gas prices.

That said, the republicans were the big oil party under the Bushes. No coincidence that they fought two wars for oil under the combined terms of those two seedy oil soaked fucks. It wouldn't surprise me that they still are the big oil party at least to some extent.
