Every single Republican voted no. The House of Representatives passed a bill along party lines Thursday that seeks to lower gas prices by cracking down on alleged price gouging by energy companies. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80304385 The House vote was 217-207: no Republican supported the bill, suggesting it's likely headed for failure in the Senate. The Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act would grant the president authority to issue emergency energy proclamations and make it illegal to increase gas and energy prices in excessive and exploitative ways. It would also expand the Federal Trade Commission's power to investigate and address possible price gouging by oil and gas companies. [link to www.cbsnews.com (secure)] There is no price gouging. Its just an excuse for inflation and shortages caused by government deficit spending and central bank money printing. Root cause! |

Every single Republican voted no. The record earnings that are noted elsewhere in this thread can also be easily attributed to factors that are not gouging as many would have the average leftist believe, or the averageleftist might espouse. For one, most states and the rest of the world began to loosen COVID restrictions after more than a year; that would be in mid to late 2021 when the surge for fuel became more pronounced, e.g. local travel to and from work, domestic travel, increased movement of goods and services, leisure travel by all modes of transportation included. All of the preceeding return to normal raises prices via general supply and demand calculus. For the gas and oil industry to spin up that fast after at least a year of curtailed production costs money, period. Secondly, and make no mistake, the "record profits" are also tied to inflation. Simply put, the money made by the petroleum industry isn't flat, it is also tied to inflation and market principles, e.g. the cost of inputs such as labor, tooling, transportation, and third party goods and services, all of which were affected by COVID shut-downs, and, well in a bit of irony, the cost of oil. |
