Re: Racoon man
That looks like fun.
Where do they all come from.
I don't see many raccoons around here these days.
They were usually ducking in and out of storm sewers around here.
I used to feed squirrels that way on the lawn at the University of Washington in Seattle. They would be climbing all over me as I fed them. Sometimes a passing child would want to come over and pat a squirrel, but as soon as the critters saw him coming, squealing with laughter, they would run off.
It was similar in the woods when I was walking along with the deer. They would suddenly run off and I would discover that it was because of people near.
I was playing with baby raccoons, as their mother watched from a distance. They purred like kittens. Suddenly, without showing any fear, or startled reaction, they casually went and started climbing a tree. I stood watching for what it was, and I soon spotted a hawk. They must have sensed it first and went for their safety in a tree.
Animals are best observed in nature.

They are like a bunch of cats, aren't they.

The cats would swarm me like that in the kitchen at night.

It takes all kinds I guess.

To me, the guy is nuts and is taking risks of getting racoon round worm, or fleas, or rabies, or maybe bitten and infected with whatever else the little robbers are carrying.

To him, I suppose he is living life on his own terms and doing whatever he wants.

Wild raccoons are very trainable with food. At one point, I had one coming into my house to eat scraps. He was very courteous. I stopped feeding when I walked out one night and there were over 20 of them in my yard and they didn't run away.

Probably lonely.

Not doing the racoons any great favors in the long run.

Other than that... to each his own.

I don't suppose any of us are getting off this rock alive.

If feeding racoons makes him happy, I guess people do worse things to be happy.

Heck maybe those raccoons will put a good word in with the bears to leave the guy alone. :)

I don't think he's doing it because he's lonely or because it makes him happy. His YT channel is fairly successful. I bet he makes pretty good money from it. The worst thing about this is that he's feeds them hot dogs. He should grow some peanuts or something besides using factory farmed chickens.

I think he lives too far north to grow peanuts.

Most if not all were rehabilitated as babies by his wife and him. When his wife died he had promised her to keep feeding them. They get most of their food from the surrounding woods and he has no neighbors for them to bother.

Poor critters rarely make it even to three years old, die from starvation or getting ran over. When raised indoors they live to be around 25 years old (only get from authorized sellers).

If you want to feed them do it right.
