Also this was a HALF marathon and most likely had less people than the infamous NYC full marathon. Here is actual proof (that thing you didn't post in yours) of a study done on marathon deaths and it further pokes holes in your story as it shows a large majority of deaths occurring on mile 26, not mile 13.. lol. The amount of people injured from a half marathon in 60 degree weather is alarming more than the deaths too. [link to www.bmj.com (secure)] Thanks, bud |

Not really, if you run on dirt or grass it's lower impact. Humans are meant to run! We are hunters. People are meant to chase their prey for hours, not sit at a desk all day! Also, running barefoot or without arch support so you land on the ground naturally reduces injuries. Look into barefoot running and how modern shoes with arch support and restricted toe boxes create running injuries. Consider that modern running shoes are the source of bad running posture and injuries. Being FAT is bad for your knees! Last Edited by launchstart on 05/21/2022 09:01 PM |

I'm not discounting that it could well be jab-related, but I thought it was fairly common for a few runners to have medical emergencies, even the odd death, when large numbers are running for long distances. But this is just the half-marathon. I think there might be problems with the whole 26 mile marathon, but 13 miles is not really a trouble causer from what I understand. wkk |

User ID: 77947460 United States 05/21/2022 10:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I looked into this a little bit, searching for an older study on the subject. In 2012, before this COVID madness, the rate of death during and shortly after (24 hours) a full marathon (26.2 miles) was about 0.75 per 100,000. Keep in mind, that includes older people and people who are not fit enough who push themselves over the edge. Death Risk for Marathoners Remains Low During or Soon After Race [link to www.hopkinsmedicine.org (secure)] In that study, all but one of the older people who died had heart disease. "For younger runners, the cause of death varied widely and included cardiac arrhythmia and hyponatremia, the latter owing to drinking excessive amounts of water." The marathon in this story only had 22,000 runners, and it was a half marathon (13.1 miles), not a full marathon. YOu have got to be kidding. People need to take care of knees and joints, but exercise and running are good for you. A marathon is hard on the body and lots of people probably should not drive themselves to train for a marathon, but, stop running after 30??? My goodness, you much really think that people suddenly get very old, very quickly. 30 is nothing in the bigger scheme of things. YOu should be able to do everything you've ever done at 30. wkk |

Race organizers will black flag a race like a half if the conditions are bad as they don’t want to get sued and deal with insurance issues so they just cancel it altogether, sometimes during. They said the race was 70 deg. with 83% humidity, no big deal. They would have canceled even during the race if it was a problem. For a half marathon the exertion isn’t that great assuming someone did a minimal amount of training. This is certainly something else and I think we know what that was. LR |
