Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever- Iraq 90 cases and 18 dead in just 11 days

Health officials in the Kurdistan Region recorded the first case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in the capital Erbil on May 10.

Cases are now at 90 with 18 deaths. The disease is mainly spread by ticks and animals although human to human is also possible with direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person. The CFR is around 10 to 40 percent.
Outbreaks happen every year in this region of the world but this is unusual because typically there is only 20 or so reports in a year.
