Anonymous Coward User ID: 80966462 United States 05/25/2022 04:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Emancipation proclamation didn't free anybody. The people it supposedly freed were, at that time, in another country. The EP did not apply to the U.S. (the country Lincoln was ruling over, idk if there was any slave in it, but if there was one... Sucks to be him.) Could Lincoln have made a law that everyone in Canada (a.k.a. another country) do anything? No. So, why would anyone in the CSA listen to Lincoln? They had their own president. Some people were freed during the war for various reasons, but the EP was propaganda to make the war look like it was 100 percent about slavery so no one (other countries) would dare side with the CSA. This used to be taught in school at least by university level. They used to mix truth and propaganda. Then, they decided to go with pure propaganda. Then they stopped teaching most things at all. This is why Juneteenth is a made up holiday. But, most holidays are, so whatever. Slavery was ended after the war by amending the Constitution. A lot of slaves were freed before that, but this is how slavery actually ended. |
