I liked the guy but he was a die hard Alexander Hamilton fan and a liberal. His research was good though. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82850619 Intelligent guy [link to textfiles.com] |

Quoting: SarahC Yeah, it was a different time. The wild west of BBS and internet. A bit of a grey area today. Or maybe even worse than a grey area. IDK? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79904252 You would go online by calling a BBS that supported a message network, usually Fidonet. I would download the latest messages, read them offline and then reconnect to send my replies. Compuserve was the big commercial service back then. "Yes, yes. Zathras is used to being beast of burden to other people's needs. Very sad life. Probably have very sad death. But, at least there is symmetry." |

Compuserve was the big commercial service back then. so not a real internet more like an intranet? yeah...several BBSs would link together and create larger networks but it basically an intranet...People ran their own BBS with modems and a few phone lines, T1 lines and there were distro sites that smaller BBS would grab the latest pirated software\games. EVERYTHING WAS OUT THERE. most BBSs it was shareware boards with free games, freeware, ect MSG boards when the internet became accessible to universities Usenet\NNTP killed the warez\pirated software BBSs and all BBSs for that matter. It was a true way to freely communicate in a massive network. NNTP Newsgroups were revolutionary, really. To exchange ideas and ultimately software, ect Usenet was a free for all for everyone. This is before HTTP came along. |
