Semi automatic rifles are not assault weapons. Fully automatic machine guns are assault weapons. It costs over $10k to purchase a fully automatic weapon. You cannot own one unless a member of law enforcement signs off for you.

Guns and explosives are still pretty good at stopping governments. The US spent how many years and how many lives only to turn Afghanistan back to the Taliban in the most incompetent way possible? How many choppers did we leave behind? The first amendment also wasn't written in a time where every person, including the completely insane, could spread complete falsehoods worldwide at the speed of light, but here we are. I'm not turning over my "assault rifles" (semi-automatic rifles) for anyone or anything. The second amendment is needed precisely in case someone tries to take them.
