Their cities are super clean and look more like theme parks than actual cities. They are also extremely safe.

I was there in the 80's and Hong Kong "AKA Fragrant Harbor" was actually an open sewer. The fragrance was not something you wanted on you.

I know they finally installed an undersea pipeline to carry their sewage offshore 20 miles or so, when they installed the new Airport on a man made land extension.

Their men's room facilities used to be a trough (for #1) and a hole in the floor for #2, which required the skill of a trapeze artist to use, connected directly to the sewer wihtout even a gas trap.
The stench was unbelievable, and would carry down the hallway into the meeting room where I was presenting.
There was no sink to wash your hands.
Sometimes, there would be a 1/4 inch copper tube hanging out in space you could rinse your hands with. Of course there was nothing to dry your hands with.

At the hotels, at least there was a decent toilet of UK design. Still not as good as a US toilet, but infinitely better than what China had. They used Sea water to flush the toilets in Hong Kong and coastal regions.

I am told everything is modern now, but it sure didn't used to be that way. Everywhere, China was driving pilings 24/7 for the new buildings. They would have scaffolding erected hundreds of feet in the air for the workers to put the buildings together. The scaffolding was Bamboo poles, tied together with twine.

The air pollution was incredible. LIke being inside a steel mill, only worse, because a steel mill would at least have a smoke stack. They were pushing that pollution straight out at street level.

Everyone there you met with had a cough like they were dying of TB or something.

I am sure things have improved since then. At least in the big cities.

The current shitshow is West fault. These useless islands shouldn't be ever allowed to be 'nations'. They have population of small city while real nations like Palestinians or Kurds are not allowed own country. If they sign deal West should just anex these islands into Australia.

Good point. No way can they defend themselves if China shows up and says we are fishing here now and will have a military base here. What are they going to do? Throw coconuts at them?
