China co-funds many big budget movies now. American films didn't play in China until about 2005. Now China is such a big market that it helps a shitty movie make money now. That's why you see so many shitty movies now and you rarely hear of a "box office bomb" as they used to call them.

I just recently watched the movie Navy Seals (Charlie Sheen, Michael Biene) and it struck me as something that was either overly pro advertising or the makers of the move actually had no idea how what the Navy Seals did. Was just crazy macho good ‘ol boys stuff the whole way through. Charlie Sheen just played himself, they may not have even given him a script.

Well China, WTF did you expect an American patriot movie would be? Like a Jet Li movie? F'ing commie idiots.

I don't know ... but Rogan sounds like a guy who could have been willing to have the guy on his podcast

of course there has been war propaganda movies before Top Gun, but the co-operation between Hollywood and Pentagon became more systematic ... like the Pentagon reading the scripts, if the movie was going to show the Military in a good light the Military will give planes, boats and all kind of military hardware as props for the production and provides grunts as extras

but ... nowadays in movie making it's not necessary to borrow real gear like fighter jets and carrier battle groups all can be done with computers ... so that might change things a bit

Yeah! I seem to recall reading or seeing a podcast maybe (?) where it was officially revealed that Navy SEALS was a propaganda/advertising movie for the military. There have been many of those over the past 40 years. But since the 9/11 torture photos, most people look at the military like, "fuck that noise, looks horrible, looks GAY."
