This was in the street. Not in the guys yard. Yeah, as much as I don’t think that dog was going to attack the cop, that cop doesn’t know that. Keep your dog locked up in the house, yard or leash while police are around.

Now if they shoot your dog in your fenced property or inside your house then you have a leg to stand on with lawsuits.

This is not to support the police who HAVE and DO shoot dogs for the hell of it on many occasions, however in this instance I understand the cops reaction.

The idea here is: just don’t be stupid. Use your head and realize that even if your dog gets loose from being locked up somehow, they could get shot. So make sure you gave them locked up good and that people in the house don’t let them out by mistake. Also make sure you have them tight on a leash, if they act aggressive while cops are around, then take them away and inside your house.

Don’t be stupid and you can sue and have at least some modicum of justice for your dog.

The owner barely made an effort to get the dog as he was approaching the cop.

If my dog is out in my yard and an unexpected person comes up he freaks the fk out. He WILL bite even though he might approach you wagging his tail. Fking huge mutant Border Collie. But there are other ways of getting a dog to back away. A gun is the last alternative.
