[link to www.zerohedge.com (secure)] the chairman of Russia's Congressional energy committee, Pavel Zavalny, said in a press conference that Russia was open to accepting bitcoin for its natural resources exports. “When it comes to our ‘friendly’ countries, like China or Turkey, which don’t pressure us, then we have been offering them for a while to switch payments to national currencies, like rubles and yuan,” Zavalny said during the press conference. “With Turkey, it can be lira and rubles. So there can be a variety of currencies, and that’s a standard practice. If they want bitcoin, we will trade in bitcoin.” And while chatter has been focused on Putin's "Rubles-for-Gas" demands and the fact that the Ruble has soared to multi-year highs relative to its fiat peers. But today, the Interfax news agency quoted a government official saying on Friday that Russia is considering allowing cryptocurrency to be used for international payments "The idea of using digital currencies in transactions for international settlements is being actively discussed," Ivan Chebeskov, head of the finance ministry's financial policy department, was quoted as saying. Discussions have reportedly been ongoing for months and though the government expects cryptocurrencies to be legalized as a means of payment sooner or later, no consensus has yet been reached. The finance ministry is discussing adding the latest proposal on international payments to an updated version of a draft law, the Vedomosti newspaper reported on Friday, citing government officials. Allowing crypto as a means of settlement for international trade would help counter the impact of Western sanctions, which has seen Russia's access to traditional cross-border payment mechanisms "limited," Chebeskov said. Russia being open to accepting bitcoin shift the tide as Putin last year had dismissed the possibility in an interview at the Russian Energy Week event in Moscow. |

Russia looking at crypto as a way to get around sanctions is one reason Bitcoin is doomed now. Another big reason is energy. Energy intensive crypto is a major part of the unprecedented inflation at present. The media are keeping a lid on this for as long as they can as rich people and rich institutions like banks need to get out of the energy intensive crypto before they destroy it once and for all, and it takes time to do that now. Also energy companies are the ones paying the bribes to media to keep it quiet because profits are high. They don't want people finding out for sure that Bitcoin and high energy crypto in general are a major part of pushing energy prices way up, because it is creating record profits for energy companies. But this is a short run thing as high energy usage crypto is not sustainable much longer. In fact if the Bitcoin price went way up suddenly it would now destroy the world economy in the blink of an eye. Deflating Bitcoin was basically necessary to try and cut back on the energy usage. So basically, energy intensive crypto is definitely done for and will be destroyed once and for all asap, and asap is when the big money can get out of it. Crypto in general has also been exposed as a way to undermine western financial power so they are probably thinking about what to do about the non-energy intensive crypto for the long term. Thus I would think you'd want to get out of any crypto Russia owns and any crypto which uses a lot of energy. I would think the banks would use the low-energy crypto to get out of the too-much-energy crypto. But then again with investing, the devil is always in the details and you have to know what the big players are doing and when or you get clobbered. Merely having the right big idea in general is never good enough for investing. |

Yeah I'm hoping Bitcoin gets internationally accepted and resists the powers that be to crash it. Believing Bitcoin will be way over $100,000 within 2 years. Having my money in dollars is just as risky if not more risky than putting it into Bitcoin. Dollar inflation rate terrible makes the risk of Bitcoin not as risky if you ask me. LookinUp1 |

Bitcoin is not the future. Crypto is evolving and BTC is fundamentally flawed. I envision "commodity" coins as the future. Digital currency pegged to physical goods. Like USDT, but instead of being pegged to USD it's pegged to a basket of commodities. And a "reserve" digital currency pegged to a basket of commodity currencies. That would put an end to USD as worlds reserve currency trolls vs bots - we live in a scifi world |

The only crypto Russia will accept is likely not be anything out there right now. Bitcoin is a no-no in Russia and China. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71214588 The china digital currently is an Ethereum based token, this could be (or something similar) to what Russia would accept. You get what you pay (and vote) for. |

Crypto is being manipulated DOWN on purpose now by whales. It's gonna blast back up with a vengence at some point (when the whales WANT it to blast back up, so we can't forecast when that will happen but I bet it will be between now and 12 months away). 2023 is gonna be a magical year. And yes, Russia accepting payment with crypto will affect whichever crypto they decide to use, to go UP.
