Re: It Is A MAD HOUSE In My Town Right Now!! HOLY MOLY!
op, you hit the nail on the head. i have been seeing this for the longest time now. good thing more people are seeing this too.

it makes me wonder there the fuck are these people getting all of this money from. how much free time do these people have?

they have already maxxed out their credit cards during covid, so where in the blue hell are they getting more money from?

dont they have to pay their mortgage, cards, student loans, ect ect..???

i work part time and even i dont have that much free time...

Parasites milking COVID relief.

Hit them with a gigantic tax bill in 23 and garnish their income if they don’t pay.

My story? I was at a carmines restaurant in Atlantic City on a Thursday afternoon with a fucking waiting time.

Tell these fuckers to go back to work or stop paying them.

Enough is enough.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83457180

To all the dipshits that think like this, COVID relief is long over. Since last December done. People that have lost jobs and cant find work and these assholes have no relief. Just more lockdowns and more bioweapons. Get it the fuck over with already pull it man.

Last Saturday it took us 2 1/2 hours to drive from Philly to Atlantic City. 60 miles. It was just as bad going home at night.

Same here in Lebanon Tennessee. I live 4 miles from the Cedars of Lebanon. Traffic here has gone bezerk. And everyone is driving fast. I talked to a coppa a few days ago and he said people are flooding into this area, and I have noticed it’s mostly milenials. Bless their hearts so many died from the vaxxx but faaah. They drive like batshi@ out of hell.

People are what I call RecreaTARDS...constantly needing recreational enjoyment or their lives are meaningless. Could never stay home and garden or milk some goats.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80683328

Remember that spending makes the economy go. If people stay home and work in their garden on long weekends, retail and tourism businesses will tank. That means they’ll pay less taxes and layoff workers. Then those workers have even less money for spending etc. It’s why economies like the one here in Colombia sucks, because people eat at home and don’t run up debt.

Don’t get me wrong - I was out working in my garden today with my kids . But the day that the herd stops spending on their credit card, the whole dollar Ponzi scheme collapses. That’s just how the designers built it. Constant inflation, population growth and debt to fuel economic growth.
Like I told my ex-wife, I said: honey, I never drive faster than I can see. Besides that, it’s all in the reflexes…

Re: It Is A MAD HOUSE In My Town Right Now!! HOLY MOLY!
I don't think I have ever posted on GLP even though I have been here since 2010.. I do lurk alot, almost every other day.

I live in a small wilderness town around under 10,000 people in the western part of the US.

There are alot of lakes and rivers and other recreational activities in my area.

I have lived in this area for over 31 years. During the summer time it does get a little busy, but not too chaotic. It has been like that since I moved here 31 years ago...

But OMFG, this week has been a mad house!! I know it is Memorial day weekend, but never have I seen so many people traveling to my area. I am talking about a 10x increase in the number of people! 10x from a normal summer vacation crowd. It usually takes me 5 minutes to drive from the supermarket to my house, but yesterday it took 30 minutes!! Even when it was busy in the summer time in the past 31 years, it only took me 10 minutes max!

A while ago I read a thread about this GLPer mentioning that unempIoyed people are always traveling. see thread below

Thread: Unemployed People Are UNSTOPPABLE... Nothing Can Stop These People From Traveling

I have to agree with this guy. I mean, gas prices are skyrocketing, inflation is at historic high, 401k's has taken a huge hit from the stock market crash, and people are all in debt to their heads and they are just traveling around alot?

This makes no sense.. People already had 2 years off from Convid, how much more vacation time do these people need?

Here is an article showing that more people are going out this weekend.. What the heck is going on?

Memorial Day weekend travel: gas prices drop slightly — to $4.59 a gallon — as 34.9 million cars hit the road

Much of the driver behind inflation is expectation.

once people believe prices will only be higher tomorrow,
they're gonna spend their money TODAY.

You're seeing the change in expectation. Spend now
because your money will be worthless soon.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83454297

LOL. Bro, spend what money? they have no money, they are all broke and in debt. These people must have like 40 credit cards each. Hell, I bet they even use their kids name to get credit cards too..

Most of them dont even have jobs. Why do you think there are so many "how hiring signs"??

Im not talking about low minimum wage jobs.. I am talking about careers.. Everyone is hiring, but no one wants to work.. I know this. 2 of my buddies are recruiters, 1 of them works for a tech company, the other works for UPS. The are all paying very well and no one is applying...

That is one thing and only thing I blame Trump for.

Never ever pay people more to stay home than they got working. Maybe the same, never more.

Jobs not worth doing? Time to pull the funemployment rug out from under these deadbeats. But I know biden will never do it. Biden has to go in 2024 and I don’t care if a rino replaces him.

Most people have been home during covid and are now vacationing. Many think the lockdowns will happen again and aren’t putting vacations off. Younger generations have realized that working 50-60 hours per week is nothing to be proud of. They understand that they are just commodities to the folks that they work for and have made conscious decisions to take time for themselves. The brainwashing of the twentieth century is wearing off as individuals realize that working non-stop until you're 65 is not the way to go. They know that a person will be lucky to have ten years left at that point to enjoy retirement.

It sounds like most of you here feel for the ruse that a person should be working as much as possible as opposed to enjoying leisure and family.

Re: It Is A MAD HOUSE In My Town Right Now!! HOLY MOLY!
What you describe makes perfect sense for times of economic distress.

During the great depression, movie theater attendance skyrocketed and cinemas thrived. The reason was when times are tough, people spend on affordable diversions.

You small town is busy because instead of getting on planes and flying to places like NYC or Vegas, families are saving money by driving to smaller, closer, and cheaper vacation spots. It is much, much cheaper for a family to pay double for gas than to buy four tickets, which are then ALSO jacked up due to high gas prices.

It is common sense.

Five years ago my FB feed was filled with pics of families vacationing in Europe, carribbean islands, and other exotic locations. Now all I see are families going camping or going to national parks by car. Literally nobody going to Europe. Even upper middle class people can barely afford that right now.

These are the same reasons why when retailers fail everywhere, Dollar Tree and Dollar General thrive. People downgrade their behaviors. Your town has become the closest they can get to a week at Disney World.

There is no mystery to this if you look at history and just think it through for a minute.
 Quoting: BarbaricYawpSounder

Flying to Europe is easy. It’s getting back into the states that is not. People still have to take a covid test and you can’t get back until you get a negative test. It’s Russian roulette leaving the stars now. So staying here is easier.

Two things driving it:

After a couple of years of being locked up because of Covid people CRAVE traveling again and aren't afraid to spend money doing it (money has ALWAYS been spent on travel during times the US is NOT at War, yep even during the Great Depression)

China is OFF the table because of their lockdowns - hundreds of thousands of Americans PER YEAR were going, today? ZERO!!

Australia is mostly OFF the table, as is most of SE Asia, again because of their lockdowns or just coming off of their lockdowns and aren't back up to speed yet. Again a few hundred thousand Americans who would have traveled there this year.

For Western Europe the WAR in Europe and their on again off again lockdown situation has meant that MILLIONS of Americans who would have gone to Western Europe this year are staying home.

Canada is OFF the table. With their fucked up entry crap nobody anymore can figure out if they are Open, Closed, or what in the hell you have to do if you go there. Again MILLIONS of Americans are NOT going to Canada this year.

Russia and Eastern Europe are CLOSED because of the War, another couple of million

The Middle East is rumbling WAR again so nobody wants to go their either.

Those several hundred flights a day to Europe before the Covid lockdown, and the couple of hundred flights a day to China and Asia before the lockdown were NOT flying empty. They were filled with people ... who have nowhere else to go.

Take it all in and combine with that fact that many people WANT to travel the options become the US, Mexico, or the Caribbean, can't even go to Canada.

There is going to be LOTS of US travel this year by people who would normally have been going somewhere else in the world.

Your area being PACKED doesn't surprise me in the least. Going to be that way all summer ... yep even if gas prices go to $7/gallon.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82248180

You seem surprised…
The system is set up for people to plan big Memorial Day weekends because traveling as far as you can somehow honors the dead. And the population is HUGE compared to even 10 years ago, much less 31.
There’s freaking people everywhere. I think it’s a last gasp at what the simple-minded consider “freedom” before it all goes to shit, which everyone knows is happening.
