Rabbit is perfectly safe to eat in any season but must be consider infectious before being thoroughly cooked. That is you can get sick just cleaning them if you dont use gloves.

I use an old FWB 124 .177 and take upwards of 12 a year.

I voted create a utopian area.

Put down a few pipes for them to hide in and don’t touch them for a while.

Then next time you see a rabbit in your yard go get it. It will naturally go run and hide in the pipe.

Have a buddy to lift it up and go to the bottom and catch it in your hands.

Grab it’s two hind legs firmly. It’s gonna kick like crazy.

Hang it upside down until it calms down then bash its head on a rock or with a hefty tool.

Don’t waste bullets or chance the law taking your guns for illegal discharge in town limits.

I’ve trapped scores of raccoon. I never ate any, but people do.

I have seen hunting shows where deer die faster from .50 cal air rifle than fire arms. The big ore air rifles aren’t cheap. Like 1500. Pretty quiet though.

Tularemia is only dangerous if the meat is under-cooked or not cooked at all, or the dead animal is not properly handled or cleaned. Before it is cooked it is worst that drinking septic tank water handling it but if you made tea with septic tank water you'd be fine if you boiled the water. NO MAMMAL is safe to eat without cooking because animals carry pathogens humans can catch.


It is true that rabbit is not very nutritious BY ITSELF and if you ate nothing but rabbits you'd be severely malnourished, , but it does have a lot of protein and can be a part of a healthy diet.

Coons are practically inedible, they taste really bad, like shit.



BUT, like I said, cat is good tasting and easy to catch, the only thing is it requires a few days to tenderize it enough to eat. Rabbit is pretty damned tough too unless you know how to prepare it. Both rabbit and cat are very lean meat, you will never get fat eating it.
