The time to ask this question was at the beginning of the Covid outbreak.

If you made it this far, then you're on the up and up and out of the woods.

I don't think most of you understand what just happened, and the sheer amount of VICTIMS.

Different brand, but I have five 300W portable power stations and a few solar panels similar to that and they're fucking fantastic.

My advice is that if you're in a legal state, buy some weed and a bag of coffee and enjoy your newfound freedom.

I'm expecting Amsterdam Style very chill coffee houses in the near future too, but they might require an annual membership due to the nature of our country.

For those MJ naysayers, go look at the quality of the Amsterdam operations, and compare it to the very best pubs in the world, in the most advanced countries.

Your pub/bars says everything about you. We can deduce using this method that the Scottish are far more advanced than we are, and so are many others.

We're getting there though.

Canning supplies. The price of jars keeps going up and up. And extra dome lids. Get them now. If you wait until canning season you may not find them.

I am shopping for a new pressure canner. Looking for recommendations if anyone has any. Not electric.

If the power goes out for a while I can live like it's the 19th century. Not fun, but I know how to do it.

Firewood will be the most important. Hopefully folks have their woodstoves in working order. I have two. One is a cook stove.

This is actually a commodity that we've stocked up on - weed.

A friend of mine did a stint in the county jail and came out swearing that drugs, instant coffee packets, and Snicker's bars would be the most valuable trading items during an apocalypse.

Made sense, so it being legal in our state, we started growing and stocking up. I also bought cases and cases of instant coffee packets, sugar packets, and creamer packets. Tobacco and cheap liquors also.

If all else fails, we'll have one hell of a party on our way out!

Last year we purchased 3 years or more of seeds. This year, and I haven't planted half the garden because of rain, we are putting in one years worth of vegetables. All will be canned for the winter to take us till next summer.

Meat ordered last november, will be picking up in August at a huge price increase. But, we secured it.

Trying to hay my neighbors 4 acres for the first time to put up half my horse hay. I will be purchasing some first cutting soon, don't want too as it is normal low quality and then selling a child for 10 tons in september...

it's going to hurt folks.

Re: What should we buy now - looking 18 months in the future?
Nobody has said cash on hand....if the electronic card system goes down, you can't buy gas or food. Cash will always be king in a shtf scenario.

If things really got bad, I don't think landlords or banks will be evicting people from their homes, so paying rent won't be an issue. Being able to purchase day to day items will be key. Bartering may become the most important way to get what you need. Stocking up on only a few items may be all you need to ride things out, so long as they are high demand items and you have a sufficient supply of them.

Gold and silver may become valuable at some point in the future, but they may not help you much if you and your neighbors are starving now.

Since getting water is always available(rivers, streams, lakes etc.) knowing the most efficient way to purify it will be key.

Non-perishable food stuffs is just as important as cash. Enough for 6 month supply for your household.

Just my humble 2 cents......

Whatever you use or consume everyday, today, you're gonna wanna stock up on now.

The hyperinflation is real. The more you buy in bulk now of the things you'll always need or consume the more money you'll save yourself in the long run.

Really depends on the style and what's happening.

Civil war, people raiding other peoples houses for supplies, or shit is just too expensive to live. Each situation requires different needs.

-Solar -anything- and the knowledge of how to build it, repair it, maintain it.

-Vegetable Seeds of all sorts, and the knowledge of how to plant it, maintain it and preserve / can it. Non GMO etc.

-Books on how to forage food, plants, mushrooms, medicinal medicines, shelters.
-Fishing rods and accessories
-Learn how to skin an animal
-Bow and extra arrows (learn how to use them)
-Air rifle, .22 and .357 cal. (yes, they make them) with thousands of rounds for each.
-Water filters / straws / purifiers
-Iodine

If you buy a car, washing machine, tv etc get the extended warranty for as long as you can. If it breaks down you won’t be able to replace it or get parts when China and other countries are locked out. If you can afford to buy 2 of everything you will need for next 10 years.

Get 10 years worth of all non perishables, soap, toilet paper, razors, shampoo, laundry detergent etc.

Get seeds. Vegetables, tomatoes etc. fertilizer, vertical garden planters (you can stack the 3 plant holders from dollar store)
Gun bullets and a cross bow. Cross bow is great for hunting rabbits, dear, ducks etc and you don’t run out of ammo.

Clothes, shoes, glasses, pots, pans everything you will need to replace. Also buy CDs records DVDs etc you will get bored and no one can afford Spotify or Netflix.

Generator and wood burner, kerosene heaters, wood/ charcoal bbq, blankets it is going to get cold and you need to stay warm and cook. If you can get a power wall that will run your place without electricity for 24 hours when they have rolling blackouts. (Either a stack of 20+ old lead acid batteries or are f you have the money NICADs but they are pricy and a lot of work. You don’t want your freezer to cut out.
