...

Right, been sort of starting on that. Buying two instead of one, till it gets to be too much for the coming 2-3 years.

Anything "Oil" based was a target of mine, like trash bags, plastic bags and even toothpaste. (a lot of petroleum used in the toobing)
 Quoting: 2012Portal

Yeah, cuz "plenty of trash bags" are a in the top ten on a prepper list.

Do you even read bro? Here is the OP's quote and what he was asking in this thread...

"We all see the writing on the wall.
Which products or items will see the highest inflation?
What could we buy now, to save 18 months down the line?"

Pay particular attention to the bolded sentence^^^ then maybe ask yourself how does my smart assed insignificant comment even pertain to this thread!
 Quoting: The Don Of Nantucket

Oops. You got me. I instantly ran with the enormous amount of posts here saying we will be eating each other in two weeks'

Assuming we aren't doing that even 18 months from now, it would make sense to have more inflation sensitive products on hand. I've done the same.

My apologies.

I'm always surprised that no one ever talks about buying codoms. Yet I couldn't do without safe sex in a crisis. What do you think about it? This item is very easy to store and most importantly, it trades and sells very well. In addition, with a codom you can also use it as a container to bring water....

One major cost-saving prep that most don't know about is buying chemicals in bulk. Examples:

-50 lb. bags of sodium hydroxide (lye) to make soap. If you want to get fancy, buy some bags of phosphates and surfactants too. Check the recipes online and SAVE money on all kinds of detergent and soap.

-50 lb. bags of sodium hypochlorite to make bleach, sanitize water, etc.

-55 gal. drum of acetic acid (food grade) that can be diluted to make vinegar for canning, pickling, killing weeds, etc.

-25 lb. bags of activated charcoal to make water filters.

Be sure to follow all safety precautions and wear PPE (personal protective equipment).

If SHTF, you can transfer to smaller bags or containers to barter or donate.

Another good prep is buying steel drums. I have found local sources for food grade drums with removable, lockable lids for less than $20. Beats the hell out of a plastic box from Wally Mart. You can store food, camping gear, etc. with no danger from rats and bugs.

I put charcoal briquets or kitty litter in the bottom. If I am storing food bags, I add a cup of food-grade diatomaceous earth to ensure no bugs. Then, a layer of newspaper followed by food bags.

It is past time to PREP!

Something needs to change. I ain't buying powdered eggs and Tang. The seventies are over, and I do not want to go back. I mean, if I could, I might do some things different. No. No.

Vote in a seventy's politician and he does seventy's type of junk. Makes promises and does nothing. Maybe if Biden sticks his thumb up his ass and holds his breathe, he can solve the all the inflation problems. That was Jimmy Carter's energy policy ... So, you know it works. yeahsure

Nothing. Because I’m the future we can be happy by owning nothing and renting everything. Elon musk has gotten rid of all of his possessions and now just rents everything. Sure you could own things and be happy but in the future you won’t need to. At least that’s what Klaus told me.

It's going to be very tough prepping in today's market. Everything from beans to bullets is sky high.

Re: What should we buy now - looking 18 months in the future?
For things that will see the highest inflation, I would think in terms of canned meat (prices are already skyrocketing but you can still find deals, i.e., RiteAid has canned Dak brand ham one pound on sale for $3.00...it's closer to $10.00 at Walmart)

You can easily freeze eggs to last through the year. Find a sale, buy ten dozen, crack six at time, scramble and pour into ziplock freezer bags, freeze flat)

Wheat prices are going through the roof. Buy flour and store properly, and also buy wheat berries to grind for flour next year.

Bulk 25 pound bags of beans and white rice. Lots of inexpensive calories as a base to your diet.

Dehydrated milk powder.

Coffee in vacuum sealed metal cans (Kirkland brand is good).

Couple of bottles of vodka.

For general bug-out or bug-in end times, if you have a large budget, buy a Ford F150 with largest size onboard generator. It has enough wattage to power your entire house. Also makes a great bug out vehicle. Or just get a duel fuel gas/propane generator for intermittent use during emergency event.

For the rest of us on normal budget, here are a few random ideas:

Car stuff:
Windshield wipers
Tires
Car oil and oil filter
Transmission fluid
Anti-freeze
Car battery

Medical/hygiene:
Tagamet brand antacid which cures shingles in a couple of days
Colloidal silver for general infection/illness
Oil of oregano for systemic infection (learn how to use it first)
Immodium AD nobody needs to have the turistas while bugging out
Pepto Bismol tablets for any kind of stomach upset
Antihistamine
Sunscreen
Aloe vera for burns
Pedialyte
DenTek Temparin One Step Lost Filling Repair

Guns, ammo, whatever you can make weapons from. Shit's gonna be real.

secondly - any land with water or water rights you can grow food or raise animals on. You can't stock up enough for what is coming, you have to be able to raise or grow it yourself or with your neighbors.

third - get to know your neighbors good and bad....who you can work with and who you have to look out for.

That way, I make friends and they too will have the means to feed themselves, once they have their garden and chicks grown.
