There hasn't been a current technology safe class 5-6-7-8 truck on North American roads for 50 years. Quoting: TheGodLikeBrianMoran Brand new 80,000 pound trucks so antiquated and dangerous that their brake controls are basically the same as what George Westinghouse designed for steam trains 150 years ago. Cars have had tire pressure monitor for two decades. How many people are going to die this summer because of a 7 foot long 75 pound chunk of a truck tire that failed miles back was deposited in the road? The answer is more than just a few. All so Jeff Bezos and the Walton heirs can make just a bit more money. I'll take my chances. I've got over 1 million road miles on everything with wheels, and I'm still here. TPMS is bullshit and cause for no end of hassles with tire shops. Drivers of any rig, including four wheelers are responsible for the consequences of using that rig. Pay attention to your own stuff and everything else that can kill you and just deal with it. We don't need no more stinking regulations! Buttgig is an asshole and we certainly don't want to give that pervert even more power. |

That's the future, all-sustainable renewable-energy trucking. Move toward "renewable" energy at a natural pace, or as the tech moves forward and the prices drop. Until then, just use coal and oil as necessary. |

But they still have to present their logs when asked or be put out of service. This rule has existed since the 1930s. Sure... I ran 4 log books when I ran way back when. Made a lot of money doing a lot of hustling. |

User ID: 81363232 United States 06/05/2022 04:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You can't anymore. All trucks are required to use e logs. The only trucks not requiring e-logs are short-haulers. My husband used to drive a truck, long before they forced e-logs down everyone's throat. But I will say, the 'smart' drivers don't let carriers dictate their lives. E logs prevent carriers from making truckers do stupid stuff and FMCSA & DOT can shut down the entire company if they are found to violate this and harass drivers. Too many drivers were being harassed by their companies to drive tired, drive too many hours, etc. I don't necessarily like the e-log but it did solve several issues. |

Cheap re-capped tires underinflated over speed with high temps is what causes that problem. |

An emission failure where a truck is only eliminating 90% of tailpipe emissions instead of 100% will cause de-rate and that truck will stop itself. EBS airbrakes, which is current in use technology, respond to the driver 200ms faster than George Westinghouse's air valves. It's the difference between brakes that operate at the speed of light and brakes that physically can't break the sound barrier. The first 200ms of an emergency stop of an 80,000 pound truck/trailer translates to yards of stopping distance and lives saved. The design intent of ABS systems on trucks today is to save tires and more expensive wheel end repairs. They didn't even want to change or add to the 7 way trailer electrical plug so they use an automotive engineering version of the Ronco Clapper to turn the trailer fault indication on a tractor dash. You have trucks today with 80,000 pounds on 10 wheels instead of 18. Have you ever had a super single fail on a non steer axle? The truck is 5x more likely to suffer loss of directional stability than an old school 18 wheeler losing a non steer tire. New heavy trucks suck in North America and it costs at least 1,000 lives every year. The robber barons of the late 19th century can't hold a candle to the murder barons of the early 21st century. Government is necessary evil, the people who pay for bad government are unnecessary evil. The people of the USA don't need protests or insurrection to solve their government problem... |

All so Jeff Bezos and the Walton heirs can make just a bit more money. Coming up on 40 years ago, I ran over one of those tire shreds coming out of a tunnel on the PA turnpike. Because of the change in light brightness from dark to daylight at the tunnel portal, I didn't see it until it was too late. I pulled over and looked under my car to see if I could see anything damaged and it looked OK. I drove about another 100 miles to my destination. The next day, I was making a low speed turn from a parking lot onto a residential street and suddenly the steering wheel turned all the way to one end of its travel and the car made a sharp turn to the right. I was able to drive two blocks to my house by fighting the steering wheel to keep the car going straight. The car had a broken upper control arm from the damage of running over the tire shred the previous day on the turnpike. If it had broken at any appreciable speed, I could have easily been in a serious/fatal accident. I was lucky that time and a few other close calls since then. From close call episodes like that, I'm convinced there is a higher power that watches over all of us and not just the babies and drunks. Last Edited by Short Circuit on 06/06/2022 03:32 PM |
