Only an idiot calls it soda if it comes out of a can or bottle. Some original glass bottles had a cork or stopper inside the bottle. They had a thick upside down metal hook on the top of the bottle that was driven inward into the bottle with the heel of the hand making a popping sound. Hence “soda pop” and “pop bottle”.

It is soda if you are at a 1950-1970s soda fountain.
