Then you will be asked what kind. Then you say Dr. Pepper, or Coca Cola or Orange Drink. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83280866 You are correct. I remember this distinctly as a child. My mother was southern and we called all of it Coke. Then we moved to Massachusetts. I asked for a Coke in a restaurant and they said, sorry, we only have Pepsi. I was so confused. The first time I heard soda called pop was when I had a roommate from Minnesota my freshman year of college. I thought it was funny and cute. |

Some original glass bottles had a cork or stopper inside the bottle. They had a thick upside down metal hook on the top of the bottle that was driven inward into the bottle with the heel of the hand making a popping sound. Hence “soda pop” and “pop bottle”. It is soda if you are at a 1950-1970s soda fountain. |

"They say the term "soda pop" is traced back to the 1800s when seltzer water came into production and tasty carbonated beverages were eventually served at soda fountains in drug stores. Their report indicates "pop" itself caught on as slang, and was prominently used in northern states like Minnesota and Wisconsin." |

The modern-day soft drink, however, didn't develop until the 18th century, when scientists started synthesizing carbonated water — also known as soda water. The “soda” part of the word is derived from the sodium salts within the water. late Middle English (in soda (sense 2)): from medieval Latin, from Arabic suwwad ‘saltwort’. |

I'm guessing A) You are not well traveled. B) You are super angry/depressed/unhappy with life. Here's why I can deduce this: If you had traveled even a tiny bit within the US, you'd know that several regions call soda 'pop'. Its extremely common. Perhaps a fifth of the entire US. Also, only someone who is miserable, and unhappy would make judgements like that. That's the hill you want to die on? You want to feel superior to people who call soda 'pop'? THATS what you are doing in life? |
