If I don't have a car, I can't get anywhere. Gas is over 5 a gallon here, which really hurts. I am disabled, and there is no public transportation in my city. Quoting: tiger1 This is the idea, to squash our freedom of movement. It makes it easier for them to control people. Yes most people do not have access to public transportation. So we need cars. And most public transportation is not safe. Individual vehicles are necessary. |

Quoting: Limpan Yeah, but our incompetent President and Democratic Party didn't have to put us in that position. Thus is a situation we don't have to be in. Under Trump, we were energy independent. We had the ability to generate a surplus. Now under Democrat leadership, we have 400% higher gas prices, tapping our emergency stocks, a broken logistics chain (baby formula, etc), Russia is driving it's invasion of Ukraine, and China is ramping up to take Taiwan |

Thought I'd pass along the following boots on the ground information concerning US oil supply. I just finished speaking with a friend and neighbor of mine who is a tug boat captain who runs oil along the west coast. He works three weeks on and three weeks off and has been at sea for a many years. He is very highly experienced and his tug is cutting edge. (Don't want to give too much info about him). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83604068 This week, he was due to unload his oil in Long Beach but mid morning Tuesday, he was told to turn around and anchor in a big bay because there was no storage available to unload. He said tankers are stacked up with the same problem, the storage tanks are FULL of oil. I asked him how the supply levels were compared to 4-5 years ago and he said the same, full. He also said that they are pumping the hell out of oil in Alaska and there is a ton coming in from overseas. My friend also stated emphatically that he is no communist but the profits being generated by these fuel prices is outrageous and in his opinion, the high prices are a scam. He is shipping the same amount of oil he has shipped for years! His evidence is that there is no oil shortage. Thread: OIL & GAS SCAM - [ NEW UNCLE INTEL ] - $8/gallon = $440/barrel - but here we are @ $120/barrel = USA is FULL OF OIL to THE BRIM! Sounds like you need to learn the difference between a TUG boat and a TANKER. Tugs do NOT have cargo holds; their sole purpose is to steer larger ships into port berths and they certainly do not "run oil" up or down any coastlines. |

Quoting: Limpan Just to restate the obvious ... Swedes do NOT need to drive as far or as much as those in the US HAVE TO. In the US the distances between cities and small towns are vast in most of the country ... and in addition our cities developed as low density as a SPREAD OUT mass, not compact (except for NYC and Philadelphia). A factor that has continued that SPREAD OUT dynamic of our cities over the last 50 years is that the COMPACT parts of our cities are generally very very crime ridden due to the fact that those most prone to crime are compacted into that compact area. At least in the US MOST people do NOT want to live cheek to jowl with crime occurring within a block of where they live or work so they want to LIVE OUT from the dense core. (if you think living cheek to jowl next to daily crime is appealing I am sure there are now areas of Sweden in it's biggest cities that you can move into - ie: some immigrant areas in those cities) I won't disagree that Americans have had a love affair with HUGE vehicles, that has been a long standing dynamic of Americans since the dawn of the auto age in the US in the 1900-1905 time frame. Those days may finally be ending with the high gas prices if they remain high. |

Actually I did live on the NOCAL coast all during the 1980's and saw many tankers enter the SF Bay area where there are no less than FIVE oil refineries that accept that crude; and tugs were not commonly used until those larger vessels approached port. Again: and just like tankers, tugs are NOT barges. The tugs may provide the power to move that cargo but they do not themselves carry any and THAT was the distinction I was very clearly making when I stated tugs do not have cargo holds because that precious space is all taken up by the massive engines needed to move other vessels. The poster who received my reply did not make that distinction and instead phrased his comments to imply the tugs themselves were carrying ["running"] oil which they do not. He even went so far as to quote the Tug Captain as saying it was "his" oil which is another glaring misinterpretation since tug operators are subcontractors unless owned by the petroleum importer themselves. Congratulations on reinforcing a false narrative. Last Edited by GSB/LTD on 06/09/2022 10:17 AM |

The United States has far more access to oil than Sweden and there is no reason we should have to pay that.
