It's obviously ass-backward to wear a mask while alone and take it off when around others.

It's purely subliminal messaging. They want the plebians to continue seeing prominent people wearing masks as a reminder that COVID is still a threat, so that people will accept and fear the next "wave" when they announce it.

They don't even care that they're sloppy with it.
