I would think it would make anyone ill being a top Russian politician for over 20 years and before that worming up through the KGB. But it's all speculation. He could just be busy with his fellow henchmen.

There is no way Russia will give up Donbass, Crimea and the South coast of Ukraine, there are too many gas and oil reserves in the area including the Black Sea.

Russia may well potentially be a self-sufficient country, but the foreign currency from oil and gas to Europe and China (and lesser extent other countries) enables Russia to have all the luxury goods to keep it's people sweet and the oligarch's rich.

Ukraine is not going to get it's old territory back in the South and East, NATO / USA / Europe will pretty much lose interest in the rest, other than to exploit the arable land. Ukraine will go on being a basket-case buffer between West and East.

Europe and the world need oil and gas, wherever they can get it, so the lost land will become independent (vassal) states of Russia, so all can be "forgotten".

Putin won't go out like this, no way.
