A catastrophic event in base year 2023 leads to the simulation initiative. A crew of leaders across a variety of fields of study are sent into a space habitat in the following years. Their objective is to ensure the survival of the human race in the event that the earth is no longer habitable or societal structures recoverable. They are known simply as the administrators. The effort includes a fleet of satellites, smaller specialty vehicles and primary communal ship.
The Space Colony
Among the specialty fleet are tens of thousands of preserved organic specimens. This includes a variety of living organisms such as plants, animals and bacteria as well as human embryos, sperm and life support systems. In the event that the earth should become habitable it can be ‘re-pollinated’, alternatively as a last resort the fleet may seek out alternative planets.
Among the other fleets of significant mention are computational and power generating units as well as data backups. The collection is an international collaboration to secure public and enterprise data backups of nearly all available digital records gathered by 2023. This includes private and public media, social records, private communications and media, transactional data and so forth. The importance of these systems is not immediately realized but materializes in the coming years.
The third notable fleet consists of preserved human tissues, primarily the whole brains of approximately 116,000 individuals. A majority of which are selected volunteers or forcibly elected individuals from the general population lottery as well as smaller sample of select leaders and several thousand elite investors.
Over the coming years the administrators arrive at a compromise. If the human race is to survive the most probable reality is to continue life in digital form. Advancements made by the administrators in machine learning, artificial intelligence, neural interfaces and brain data recovery and mapping allow them to recreate authentic consciousness. Unsure of what events lead to disaster the administrators recreate base year 2007. The consensus is that humanity in digital form is a sufficient ‘evolution’ should the simulation reflect actual past events, allow for conscious thinking and perceivable reality.
Simulation. A Digital Existence.
Of the 6.6 billion individuals simulated, only the 116,000 are functional with conscious to semi-conscious capability based on quality of brain recovery and data records available. Their timelines, experiences and other qualities are recreated in a semi-rigid state leading up to base 2023. Data including photos, public and private messaging, digital communications, purchasing, banking and other history is leveraged to recreate varying states of base reality reproductions.
The significant resource requirements limit the simulation to a single session, followed by analysis and eventual re-simulation with modifications to variables. Experience consensus is also realized via data upload sessions secured during in simulation sleep cycles. Perceived physical detail and reality is also scaled down. In These initial simulations are grossly unsuccessful lasting anywhere from a few months to years .Variables are adjusted in so far as the administrators believe they preserve the essence of human experience while attempting to mitigate a disastrous outcome.
Simulation Challenges
As base decades pass the administrators and many among the colony themselves elect to clone their conscious minds. The administrators do not participate in the simulations and instead continue oversight of operations building upon their previous learning. They retire from work to an adjacent simplified simulation which allows them to continue familial interaction human experience with any desired habitat, food, or experience accessible. They do interact with their next generation organic counterparts on the colony.
Deja Vu
After several unsuccessful simulations the administrators devised a concept to prompt individuals to course correct at key timeline events. They reflect a moment which has been previously reproduced across a variety of decision trees and timelines. A hypothesis was presented that given a variety of conscious, semi conscious and simulated individuals experienced such moments, that they are key to potentially avoiding what have been to date catastrophic outcomes. The deja vu adjustment is intended to create a slight pause in the timeline with an opportunity for the individual to choose an alternative.
Grim Prospects
Nearly 200 base years pass. Earth has recovered to small distributed populations that live in harsh conditions devoid of any modern base 2023 amenities, communication or societal structure. The 16 simulations to date have all terminated around simulated 2023 +/- 10 years due to human choices. Adjustment of variables has been unsuccessful. The space colony has failed to identify any habitable and feasible to dock host planets.
Due to the extensive strain on the computational systems and lack of resources on board the colony to maintain their components a variety of limitations have been imposed. What the recent digital simulation population identifies as mandela effect and mental disorders such as alzheimers disease are not base human conditions. They are a forced variable adjustment due to data corruption and accidental recall from the deja vu initiative which become injected into revisionist history and simulation conditions.
After careful evaluation the administrators decided that given the hardware deterioration and trajectory the next simulation will be the final one. A few radical changes are proposed and pass.

Administrator Termination
No human in history had ever lived past 150 let alone nearly 300 years. The conscious digital administrators have reached a terminal point of emotional and cognitive collapse. The burden of the truth, of observing so many iterations without success of endless life has reached a tipping point. With uniform consensus the elder administrators decide to collectively self terminate.
The gathering place is the attic of a peaceful western world suburban estate home. With baby blue wood panel exterior walls, white trim windows, a lush light green yard and traditional white picket fence.
Simulation 17. Our reality.
Sometime March or April 2016, simulation year 2016: During sleep by accident or due to rogue administrator programming a conscious individual from the simulation traverses to the administrator gathering. They enter the baby blue home and venture to the attic where they witness a circle of silent, robed individuals. Somehow without any exchange of words, to mind come a variety of names. This bizarre cult like gathering motivates the individual to venture down from the attic and out the front door where they run into an individual from whom they learn… everything above and some . some clues for saving this simulation.. or nothing…
