Re: Sun is directly overhead right now, that should be impossible
earths magnetic north is not its rotational axis.....

high noon or solar noon is whenever the sun is at its highest....casting the shortest shadow.....

due to where you are in your time zone .....daylight saving time and the analemma of your latitude.....high noon is not at clocktime 12pm.....

here is a site to determine your solar noon time....

The earth axis tilt is no more than 24.5 degrees. [link to www.timeanddate.com (secure)]

That means that at the maximum, summer equinox (which is just about now) the sun will be 24.5 degrees higher than average.

I am located at 42 degrees north latitude. I know which way is north, and if anything, the sun is slightly south of vertical at the moment. That means that on the average, the sun at noontime should be 42 degrees below vertical, about 48 degrees above the horizon.

Since 24.5 < 42, it should be impossible that the sun is directly overhead.

so why is it called "high noon"

what's high at noon

typo, I meant

"the sun is slightly south of vertical" i.e. it's gone beyond vertical
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81887851

No, earth tilt is 23.5 deg. Slightly south of vertical means it is not directly overhead and did not "go past vertical". At 42 n Latitude at or near the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere you should see the sun at middle of day at about 18.5 degrees off the vertical to the south of you.

Re: Sun is directly overhead right now, that should be impossible
if you're at 42 degrees north latitude......then at the equinox the angle to the noon sun will be 90 - 42 = 48 degrees.....

at summer solstice you add 23.4 degrees to that and the sun should be 48 + 23.4 = 71.4 degrees above the horizon......or 90 - 71.4 = 18.6 degrees from directly overhead...

go outside tomorrow and determine where the sun is at high noon.....
jam a stick in the ground and mark off the shadows to find the spot where the shadow was shortest.....that was high noon....
if the sun is directly overhead there will be no shadow.....

the next day you document your observation.....

if your stick is 4 feet high....then the shadow should be about 1 foot 4.125 inches long.....
the longer your stick...and more pointy it is on top.......the more accurate your measurement will be....

dont come in here making outlandish claims unless you have good documentation of your observation....
for instance....take a video of a phone showing the time and gps location....or a landmark if there is one nearby....and in the same shot your stick and a tape measure on it and the shadow.....

Was out at noon yesterday, first day of summer. Sun was high, objects on the ground were casting a slight shadow due north.

JUST LIKE THEY’VE DONE ON EVERY OTHER FUCKING SUMMER SOLSTICE I’VE EVER SEEN.

The stupid, it burns...

We live in a Crater . like a bowl . It has a V type structure visible from above . Our crater is a circle with a V shaped slice inside of it . Look up Crater Earth theory .

It's mind blowing and the ancients believed the same thing .

It explains why we don't have air flights from Africa to Australia and shows the land mass as an inverted ribbon .

Thinks of Spocks vulcan hand sign . Think of pac - man .

The elites know all of this and use that V symbol in our faces .

Not only are we a crater with a dome over it , there is a plethera of other land masses in other craters next to us and beyond .

The Germans found their way out by traversing under water canyons and surfaced in another Crater next to us .

Please review this guy's You Tube site . [link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

He has spent 4 years doing studies on Crater Earth . So go back to his 4 year old vids .

Godgevlamste Channel .... Read the comments to . This changed my mind from flat earth totally . I wasn't sold on flat earth . Crater Earth is fucking DEEP ! You will be Blown away ! happy trails ...

There is a name for it and it happens twice per year at noon time at certain locations around the globe

There is a city on Hawaiian islands where they built a sculpture in a park that is meant to demonstrate shadows being perpendicular to the ground
