SPices in Europe were so valued (black pepper the most actually), because most of the meat at the market was 'off coloured' if not outright getting mushy. If I see discounted meat because of looks, it's a buy. Like dented cans...lol...who cares what's in those without labels!? I can cook. 'Oh dear' stewed tomatoes...sauced and frozen. 'Oh dear' peas...cottage pie!

On Wednesday, I get a supermarket flyer. Meat used to be on sale sometimes, but not for the last few months. I still have a good supply in the freezer, enough for a couple of months.

You are dead wrong. The feed prices are through the roof, there is no water for farmers, food plants are being burnt to a crisp. This is a mass slaughter and meat will flood the market before it becomes $200 a pound and then dried completely up. Do not be fooled by this calm before the storm. I was in SAMs before the weekend and saw the same $5 off on ribeye and strips. The damndest thing was the steaks were huge, 2” thick, a few to a pack. Maybe I would’ve gone for that if my dad was still around. Never missed a Father’s Day for him. Not a day go’s by I’m not grateful for everything he taught me. Oh and if you wanted thinner cuts, $1 more a pound...I realized that as I got up to the register and said screw it. I planned on grilling for the 97/100f days anyway. I don’t want to heat up the house. Get a smaller pack to make the $5 off worth it. When I was in though they had stuff processed 2 days before and the day before. So none of it looked old.

The interesting thing is they had prime rib burger patties. Never seen em do that before...They looked to have less fat than their 88%+. $3 off a pack on the prime. I’m not one for premade patties but damn they were better tasting than the steak. Word to the wise- don’t ever buy the preprocessed stuff from SAMs. The meat they butcher in house is all from around the local area.

It’s been so miserably hot outside today, who wants to eat anyway? Since they’ve run everything into the ground, a friend of mine has been doing the online grocery shopping service for people to make ends meat. He told me sometimes they tip more than the groceries cost. That’s insanity.

Ended up out in the sun all day helping him fix his broken black car so he could pay his rent by delivering other people’s food that are too afraid of their own shadow to leave the house. I took him for a parts run and it was 102 on the dash...After washing up for the 2nd time to go feed my furry friend I put on some nitrile gloves for round 3. Damn near melted to my hand leaning on black painted metal for just a couple seconds. Gloves were short lived...

When we packed up for the night because we needed another part and anyone who had it was closed- I offered to grill us some steaks and baked potatoes on the grill. He Declined, he was too cooked to even wanna eat too. This is after telling me he’s been eating beans and rice lately with ground turkey Because it’s 2 bucks a pound. Maybe those clowns are onto something with their crickets and bug snacks...The sun is worse than it ever use to be. Even after downing bottles of water like you’re hooked up to a h2o iv, that sun makes you not wanna eat. Hell it took me a few hours to even think about crackin a cider tonight.

As depressing as it is watching them purposely try to run everything into the ground in the States. As bad as we may think we have it, somebody always has it worse. I found out a few days ago my older, smaller brother, is down to 110lb. Economies everywhere have tightened up. He’s married, living in another first world country, 100% legal and he’s now last in line for jobs because it’s so bad for the native population. He lives next to the ocean and fish is the cheapest meat at about $20 a pound! They go in during the last hour or so and get it for half price when they can afford it. The average daily wage over there in the countryside is the equivalent of $75 a day...I need to either get some ocean fishing gear and ship it or help him with a business. I even looked into getting him some groceries online. A can of chicken the size of a regular cat food can is damn near 20 bucks, plus delivery!

In times like these, help people that need it, help them help themselves. A couple of years down the line and my friend may forget about that steak I offered him today but will sure as hell remember the 100 degree help with his car so he can help himself going forward.

So the temp of fridge is reliable. Instead of always opening door.

I had a short term gig selling Sam's memberships for a few months. It was a trip. I went to different WM's in the area and set up a table inside, and basically gave the memberships away for a few bucks because they were giving them gift cards with purchase of membership. It was an amazing experience and I was top sales for two of the three months I did it. No commission, and they offered me a full time job and I declined because I made SO MUCH MORE money traveling for them and I was SO over it. I had to try to talk to every person that walked through the doors of WalMart. It was funny how many people didn't know it was the same company. Really?

Eight bucks is cheap and just filling your tank once would pay for that expense. They must be hurting to offer that even short term. They only did it in my area when Costco came to town, because their membership was so much more expensive.
