Many places like Colombia going down hill fast. Vietnam has cold and hot areas. Turkey is cheap. Maybe eastern Europe like Albania/Bulgaria. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83715521 Represents ! With $1K/mo you won't be ballin' but you can live quite decently, even in a larger city. And yea, it is calm here, just because we are a really small country outside of the swirling major chaos, including relatively low crime, with rare homicide and other disasters. Anonymous Coward User ID: 83452122 Mexico 06/20/2022 04:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Many places. Many parts of Mexico, Central America and South America are still nice and cheap, so is much of Asia, and so is much of Eastern Europe and Africa. You have many excellent options. Vietnam is a good example. The country is very safe, very cheap, the food is fantastic and there's a lot to see and do there. |

Bulgaria is a big thumbs up. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 83720531 United States 06/20/2022 05:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in the Midwest near the Ohio, WV, KY borders and live fine on less than $1000/month. I'm divorced and kids are gone, but all my bills add up to about $750, including rent, heat and internet. I don't eat out a lot, but have to admit I like Giovanni's sandwiches. But I do fine on that. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79742693 Switzerland 06/20/2022 05:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Georgia is one of my favorite countries. Very cheap, beautiful country, the people are friendly and gregarious, terrific food. You can easily live on less than $1000 a month there. This. I just spent some time there. I would say cost of living is about 40% of the average US town. If you like beautiful country, fantastic food and wine. It is hard to beat. Easy to get residency. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80584824 It's going to be really dangerous in some of those cheap countries very soon. How so? Almost all of them are much safer than almost every major US city. At least in the US it is much easier to get a firearm as a law abiding citizen. In those countries, if society breaks down, you're truly fucked with no options besides a kitchen knife for self-defense. Not true. You can own firearms in many of these countries. Have you ever traveled outside of the US, or even done basic research on other places in the world to live? BS Even rimfire rifles are highly regulated in places like the Philippines. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 82063272 Canada 06/20/2022 05:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You’re fucked. Me too. Stuck in a decaying society. No cops. People afraid. They won’t help you if you get jumped. They won’t talk to cops because they are afraid. So carry some defence. Legal defence. “Dog spray” is a legal item. Wasp spray also hurts the eyes if you can’t find any. Don’t be afraid to backdown. Live to fight another day. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 81376954 Costa Rica 06/20/2022 06:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | According to recent YouTube expat videos, you need $1500/mo to live decently in the Philippines. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71093177 It's going to be really dangerous in some of those cheap countries very soon. ^^^THIS. But there is a caveat to that. If you've already established yourself in one of those cheap countries and have garnered indigenous friends, you have a shot of not becoming a victim to crime or destitution should your $1000 a month become worthless. There's a chance, that's all. Personally, I prefer a place where produce erupts from the land year round and without much effort. Those places can only be found between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Of course, disease, drought or other disasters make that strategy a "best guess", yet...that's where being prepared to relocate quickly helps a lot. Humans are nomadic and adaptative. It all comes down to your will to live and how much suffering you can absorb. |
