Then the rise of using your home as a "bank" via equity. Prices can go up for just about everything if people have various types of borrowing power. People will also pay whatever as long they think payments are affordable in their minds. That's the first thing people care about when looking for new/newer vehicles. "What's the payment going to be?" Look at all the rent-a-center type of chains that exist. People will pay 2 to 5x the cost of something so that they can make payments. The middle and lower classes existence is an illusion. It's all based on debt on things that most don't really own. When the WEF said you won't own things and be happy... well that's already been around for a long time. |

In my short years on this earth, I’ve learned the more you pay someone that doesn’t possess many skills, education, talent, the more complacent and lazy they become. You have to reward hard work. I don’t mind paying you $20 an hour, but if you spend 3 hours a day on your phone, calling your boyfriend’s parole officer, or Tik Toking, you’re fired. I don’t like to waste time or money. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74642967 Good luck to you blue hairs looking to make $20 an hour and sit back and Instagram all day, you won’t last. You’ll quickly be replaced by someone older, willing to work, and someone that needs the job. Good luck with life if you think this world owes you anything. Your hopes of an inheritance from your broke parents (broke because they just paid off your third DWI and baby momma’s second abortion). Just good luck. Oh yeah, and, San Dimas High School Football rules! I retired at 38. You're very generous. My gardener does less than 2 hours of work a month for $115/month and I think I'm overpaying. I gotta ask, how did you retire at 38? Military? Sell a company? Inheritance? Lotto? Or, did you work minimum wage jobs? That last one was sarcasm for those on minimum wage; they’re a little slow you know… |

Quoting: Vapor Trails If you are an able-minded adult complaining about minimum wage, you are a Tard. Wages and salaries have been suppressed and dropping. This isn't just entry level work anymore, it's a joke. Exactly. There's just not enough decent paying jobs to support the majority of the population anymore. In the 80s/90s it was pushed hard for people to get a college degree to have a better life. Well... people listened and now people with degrees is oversaturated while manufacturing jobs that families could live off of siphoned off over those years overseas. Now people parrot to go to a trade school and learn a trade. I know quite a few families that had their kids do this in the past 8 or so years. They're struggling now too due to the oversaturation that's happening. Customers that pay for plumbers, electricians, etc. are on fixed incomes or make drastically lower wages. The majority of people can't afford to pay for the skill wages of plumbers, electricians, etc. Politicians shouldn't be able to make a career of it. They lose touch and as long as they're getting theirs then they could care less. They sold the country out long ago and still do (see the gov. approval of Smithfield foods to the Chinese as a semi-recent example). |

Minimum wage in 1992 was $5.50. Federally now it’s $7.50/hr. Some states have higher. , Florida being $10/hr and California being$13/hr Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78221947 Prices of things since 1992 have gone up 300-700% but the Federal minimum wage has only gone up 100%. Gas, for example, has gone up 400%. Toyota pickup roughly up 500%. Rent where I used to live in 1992 has gone up 600%. Food I’m paying probably 300% more Based on my calculations with cost of living , the min wage should be, at least, $25/hr to be able to pay your bills You realize that companies can only pass that along to the consumer thus raising prices for everyone and completing the circle. You ready for $25 burgers? Let's make the minimum wage $100/hr so we can all eat $100 cheeseburgers. |

And it did so. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80398165 Was Minimum Wage Ever Meant to Be a Living Wage? From the beginning, the minimum wage was meant to be a living wage—meaning families could live off of the pay comfortably, rather than struggling paycheck-to-paycheck. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a major proponent of the living wage, saying that “by living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level. I mean the wages of a decent living.” With this idea, a family that earned minimum wage could not only cover the costs of food and shelter but also save for emergencies and have the funds to thrive rather than just get by.
