Starbucks staff in Fl make $11/hr now. Costs now:
$5/gallon gas
$1500 for 1 bedroom if you find it
$40,000 Toyota pickup

We had no mobile phone or internet fees

I didn’t include other stuff like healthcare, utilities, clothing, shoes, etc

Imagine some States it’s $7.25/hr

When minimum wage was instituted, it was intended that one person working would be able to pay every bill, including a mortgage on that salary. And it did so.

Rent in San diego in the early 90s was a median of $611. Thats over 50% of your income if you made minimum wage in 92. Minimum wage was never supposed to be a living wage. Get some roommates...we all did it growing up till we worked our way up the income ladder. You are not special.
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

Average rent for 1 bedroom in Austin is almost $1700

This is why you can't find dishwashers, etc.

They can't afford to live in town or the long commute.

I support making politicians' pay the minimum wage for their jurisdiction. If they represent a state, they get the state's minimum wage. If they are in a federal capacity, they get the federal minimum wage.

I bet we'd see some changes pretty quickly.

I made $11/hr back in 1992 which I considered a low wage. Minimum wage in 1992 was $5.50. Federally now it’s $7.50/hr. Some states have higher. , Florida being $10/hr and California being$13/hr

Prices of things since 1992 have gone up 300-700% but the Federal minimum wage has only gone up 100%. Gas, for example, has gone up 400%. Toyota pickup roughly up 500%. Rent where I used to live in 1992 has gone up 600%. Food I’m paying probably 300% more

Based on my calculations with cost of living , the min wage should be, at least, $25/hr to be able to pay your bills

Federal minimum wage in 1992.was 4.25 an hr

Cost of living is a racist scam. It was designed to keep blacks out of the workforce because before min wage you negotiated your price and could work for less, but if there was min wage you couldn't outbid your opponent.

I lived on $11 an hour in 2012. It wasn't easy but I still paid bills to my ex and supported my kinds.. (not on the child support scam the government fucks us with) and we all did fine. I had to find a non luxurious car and think before I spent. You know what it did for me?

Made me realize I was undervalued and I strive for a better job. Got my way up to 75K a year. Took a 30k pay cut to work a job I enjoyed rather than for money... how did I do it?

Well up until Covid and then the Biden Administration it wasn't hard! But when the Govt makes you owe 7k after 13 years of having kids and getting 5-7k tax returns then it is hard. Maybe abolish democrats and you can live off 11 an hour... well not. Now because Biden turned us into a 3rd world country.

You should get into living on less the way Bob Wells explains it. Check out CheapRVLiving on youtube and he will show you how to live in a small RV, minivan, etc.

You forget you are RICH if you live in the US. So much of the land is owned by the gov't and as a citizen you have a right to use a lot of it. There are rules that the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) oversees camping areas and such. But there are other places that say you can stay 14 days for free and then you have to move 100 feet. Silly rules like that which are fairly easy to comply with.

This guy Bob Wells shows how people he knows lives on as little as $250 a month. Some, a lot more comfortably on $800 a month. Some can live on so much less and feel free by realizing an American citizen is the biggest land owner out there. It's free to learn how, just go to youtube. I plan to do this in the future.\

People do not understand certain basics.
Wages are a cost to the employer.

In order to make more as an employer, keeping costs down is vital.

Keeping your wages down, in relation to inflation is how the rich get richer.

The more millionaires out there means that there are many more people struggling.

The only way out of the cycle that has been created is to cut cost. Live with parents and family- do not go out to eat-learn to diy your car/home-do not fall into the debt trap-do not try to keep up with the Jones.

You should be using every trick you know to save money-from carpooling to plastic sheets on windows in the winter to bagging a deer in season to offset food cost.

I grew up with hand me downs and patches on my pants. Those days are coming back.

Starbucks here usually has 4 workers which at $11/hr is $44/hr. Each customer I see spends usually over $10-20 per order . They probably average 19 people coming in every 10 min

You telling me to raise their wage to $20 is gonna hurt Starbucks? Per hour that’s only $36 for 4 people

I remember being a child in the 80s and seeing on the news about how Ronald Reagan wanted to turn us into a "service economy."

I knew as a child that this was not a feasible way to have an economy when nobody is actually producing anything. I thought to myself, "They'll figure it out, the old man won't be in office much longer anyway."

I don't know how I knew at such a young age, but I sure was naive enough to believe we "adults in the room" in government who would set us back from a stray path of some sort time morons who take control.

By the recession of the early 90s I had lost that naïveté.
