In a default or deflationary depression cash is king PMs are not worth anything. Garden wont feed you considering the average human without working needs base weight * 12 = kcals per day...

Capital controls on EVERYTHING. Labor rates, food, textiles, everything gets standardized. People are allocated credits for working but it goes through the FED in a fully digital system, enough to survive if you work. If you don't...dunno what happens...likely you get put on a train and promised a 'safe place' ...in a trench. Going to the store, you can only buy what they allow you to buy. Your account is totally controlled. You go to buy a generator and the guy at the counter says "it won't ring up"... you can't have it. no worries tho, you'll still have your phone. orwell understood this all too well. But that also imvolves consent and compliance; I don't think people will accept. For instance, in your example, can't buy a generator? Then a system will arise where instead you buy a 12 volume set of Wokepedia..in name...but under the counter they slip you a generator. People will always find a way to circumvent and overcome tyranny eventually.
