PEAK OIL FOLKS!

Peak oil. Have been hearing about this myth for nearly 50 years. Contrary to popular opinion, oil comes from the earth by God. Not from dead dinosaurs. The US has never ending reserves.

It started on 911, when Michael Chertoff mandated radiation scanners in all airports and TSA pat downs.

The start of control.

1. Register and annoy.

2. Induce apathy by repetition.

3. Increase control measures.

4. Deny use.

Travel Sucks, but I thought that even before the "golden age of travel" ended.

But I agree it's over. Stick a fork in it.

US airlines don't want to fly a plane unless it is at 85% capacity. Fuel costs are crushing the airlines.

Just imagine a world in which, almost overnight, the transport system breaks down. Flights across the world are cancelled, leaving thousands of travellers stranded far from home.

Airports are crowded with mobs of angry, frightened people. Even greater throngs descend on the railway stations, desperate to squeeze on to the horribly overcrowded trains.

Meanwhile, the roads fall eerily silent, as rocketing petrol prices make it prohibitively expensive for all but the richest to drive long distances.

For businesses across the Western world — hotels and restaurants, cafes and newsagents, garages and tour operators — this would be nothing short of a disaster.

This is part of the reason why we are taking a nice road trip in a few days: Vegas, the Rainbow Gathering in Colorado, Wyoming, then to Wisconsin for a family reunion. 2 weeks on the road (well, 1 week travel, one week with family in the UP)

I REFUSE to fly and can see the writing on the wall - life as I have known it for 55 years is about to go POOF

Re: The Golden Age of travel is over: All our lives, we've taken it for granted
Yes. I've flown my whole life. Throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s and saw its' decline over the years but especially in the 00s leading up to now.

My husband and I flew to Denver in 2016 and that was when my husband said he had it, he was not flying anymore. I flew a few times since then - the last time in 2019 was when I decided that's it for me. It just got unbearably worse over the years.

Now, as you mentioned with fuel costs, pilot shortages, cancellations, delays - it's turned into a hellish nightmare. Nope, I'm not ever steeping foot on a plane if I can help it. I'd rather take a bus, at least I'd have more legroom, can bring my own food and drink and wouldn't have to deal with gestapo flight attendants.

It's amazing, our once wealthy and free nation, has turned into a shithole. I remember as a kid wondering what sorts of technological advancements would be made in the future that would improve us and our lives. Sure, we have the internet but most people don't utilize it for the vast resource of knowledge it contains. Instead, they only have the attention span for a 3 minute tiktok video and can barely type outeletter acronyms, emojis and like buttons.

Technology has created a dumbed down, fat, lazy and entitled society. The golden age is gone and we are in a free fall towards our collapse.

Very well said!. My thoughts exactly. And it is so hard for us to see this happen in realtime.

I remember when several years ago I saw that movie, Idiocracy and thought, nah, the world will never be like this, this movie is a little exagerated. Now I'm begining to see that the world is gonna be so much worse than the one described in the movie.
All will be revealed.

THERE WAS A GLP INTEL THREAD ABOUT AIRLINE TICKET PRICES TO INCREASE 16 FOLD. Can any glper post it here. Trying to find it.

LOL

You couldn't pay ME 16 fold TO fly on any of their planes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73418538

Thread: Intel From Aviation Industry

My client is a major player in the aviation industry.
Had a very interesting conversation with him the other day.

What he said is shocking. Air travel is about to massively change:

1- Airlines will switch to a some kind of specialized eco fuel for planes, which is 18 times the price of regular gas.

2 - Airlines know that they can't simply raise the price 18 times for tickets because of fuel cost alone.

3- Hence the new airplane models that are being built now for use in the future are more "luxurious".

4 - Travelling therefore will be exclusive for the Uber rich. Less planes, less flights but more profits - were talking about like a 9-15K cost for an average round trip per person.

Travel now while you can. Vacationing will be a thing of the past. Average people will never be able to afford air travel again .

you are correct. i agree. golden age of travel is over.
 Quoting: Abu A

We were well past the golden age even before this latest fuel price hike and before Biden. This is because roads are poorly maintained and traffic worsened and so manners declined to where road rage and reckless driving became the norm, especially near larger cities where speed bike gangs also terrorize the road etc.

Add to that on planes the proliferation schleppy degenerates that act like animals

Re: The Golden Age of travel is over: All our lives, we've taken it for granted
Yes it is. The people of today are entitled even the main cabin middle seaters. It’s a miracle every time a plane takes off. That a trip that would usually be 30hrs and you can get there in less than 4hrs. People treat it as if it were an Applebees. Which is annoying. They dress like they just rolled out of bed, they smell, they trash the rows they sit in on every flight…they are rude to flight crew and other passengers. It just isn’t even what it was 4yrs ago. I boarded an entire plane the other day and not one person said hello to me not even the kids. I was up front greeting every single one of them. Humanity is just selfish and entitled and they treat us crew like we are the help: they have no idea all the emergencies we have to go through. Serious Medicals, engine failure…severe turbulence…these are just a few of things I have done on the plane and these peoPle see me as the maid. Truth is myself along with many others on the airlines fought for the unvaccinated. We made a big difference and we’re a huge part of the reason it went to court. I’m unvaccinated and alot of other crews are as well…I guess the maskers don’t like me cause I don’t wear a mask…the anti vaxxers think I am vaxxed. So both sides I get hate every single day:
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83733905

That hate will come right back at them. Thank you for all that you do putting up with them and staying unjabbed and fighting for that.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79543875

Totally agree with this comment. It's disgusting how people behave in so many walks of life. Not just on planes, but just about everywhere it seems. Our politicians are monsters, and the citizenry that matters keeps running on a treadmill while the scofflaws, whiners, bitchers and gold brickers just keep on keeping on. Evil is on the march, and it is long passed time we tolerated any of it. Thanks for what you do, and risk, and have a pleasant day.
