In airplanes, 5 star service, everyone dressed and behaved well, people happy polite and excited. Very similar to steam engines when new, minus the black soot. Everything humans do turns to shit though. Once you realize this, you are no longer disappointed. |

But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." Marcus Tullius Cicero |

User ID: 83436424 United States 06/23/2022 06:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. I've flown my whole life. Throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s and saw its' decline over the years but especially in the 00s leading up to now. My husband and I flew to Denver in 2016 and that was when my husband said he had it, he was not flying anymore. I flew a few times since then - the last time in 2019 was when I decided that's it for me. It just got unbearably worse over the years. Now, as you mentioned with fuel costs, pilot shortages, cancellations, delays - it's turned into a hellish nightmare. Nope, I'm not ever steeping foot on a plane if I can help it. I'd rather take a bus, at least I'd have more legroom, can bring my own food and drink and wouldn't have to deal with gestapo flight attendants. It's amazing, our once wealthy and free nation, has turned into a shithole. I remember as a kid wondering what sorts of technological advancements would be made in the future that would improve us and our lives. Sure, we have the internet but most people don't utilize it for the vast resource of knowledge it contains. Instead, they only have the attention span for a 3 minute tiktok video and can barely type outeletter acronyms, emojis and like buttons. Technology has created a dumbed down, fat, lazy and entitled society. The golden age is gone and we are in a free fall towards our collapse. Last Edited by ElleMira on 06/23/2022 06:55 AM |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78517965 A fictional scenario for claiming the "golden age of travel" is over? Daily Fail. Not quite so. Friend flies to Singapore. Singapore Airlines. Incoming flight totally full 3 classes. Outgoing flight, the one he was on, totally full, First, Business (his cabin) and Economy (premium and ordinary). Packed. Other friend flies to Chicago. 2 classes. American Airlines. Business and Economy, all packed. He sat in Business, Seat 2A. These are most recent long haul international flights. Yesterday and the day before. Other friends flying out to Chicago today. Don't know if AA or UA. No report yet. Flight leaving later this afternoon. CDG-0RD. I came. I saw. I Concorde. As for recreational travel - it was great for the ruling classes and then for the middle classes - but like everything else, as soon as it gets down to where the lower orders can travel anywhere - it all turns to shit and so not worth doing. |

Fuel costs are crushing the airlines. Quoting: CharlieFoxtrot Just imagine a world in which, almost overnight, the transport system breaks down. Flights across the world are cancelled, leaving thousands of travellers stranded far from home. Airports are crowded with mobs of angry, frightened people. Even greater throngs descend on the railway stations, desperate to squeeze on to the horribly overcrowded trains. Meanwhile, the roads fall eerily silent, as rocketing petrol prices make it prohibitively expensive for all but the richest to drive long distances. For businesses across the Western world — hotels and restaurants, cafes and newsagents, garages and tour operators — this would be nothing short of a disaster. None of these disgusting toadstools were elected in anyway by the citizens of the world. They're nothing but rich losers who've never had to lift a finger in their lives, other than to do the bidding of their masters, or master. I don't know what country gave permission to these jackasses to run roughshod over the rest of us, but I sure as hell know that the American people surely didn't. Every filthy rotten politician is beholden to these jackals, EVERYONE OF THEM. They are nothing but controlled sock puppets, spewing their BS on a daily basis, and plotting against the world to institute their grand schemes because they simply have nothing better to do than screw up anything they see and touch. |
