To be honest, its a good thing to live without hot water for a few months. We are way to soft and spoiled. There are refreshing advantages to showing with cold water. And it makes you truly appreciate the luxury. America could use this technique to appreciate the real need to address their problems by developing a bit of self endurance. And evolve gratitude that you even have running potable water.

And this is probably the reason behind this obvious recommendation to have shorter showers: to make us appreciate our abundance, and stop complaining, and think big.

If you can stand a cold shower, you certainly can tackle more important tasks. You can address social problems like homelessness with empathy and compassion. By sharing an experience, you can find common ground by being an example of strength, an example of rigour and self discipline, which inspires others to overcome minor difficulties.
