Already sick of this crap.

Another online war brother vs brother.

Picked up a nice porterhouse steak for grilling later this afternoon. Nice salad, baked taters and some corn on the cob to go with it.

Also picked up a local grown Mississippi watermelon which is chilling in the fridge dasbier

Row and fight the current or wade and let the current sweep you under. It's clear what this is.

OK, that makes sense. Sounds like a plan!

I love growing sweet potatoes. It's the official state crop here in NC. Fun to grow, fun to dig up when ready.

What color are the Jamaican potatoes when harvested? Orange? Or something different, like purple maybe? Are they sweet potatoes, or more like regular potatoes?

Just too far north here in NJ for sweet potatoes, but regular potatoes are in and growing. Peanuts, too. Didn’t know until recently, but you can grow peanuts as far north as Newfoundland, Canada.

Last week on a road trip passing through western NJ, we took a wrong turn off the interstate and drove through some of the most beautiful rural scenes.

My teen daughter was even excited, and said it was the best wrong turn ever.

Now that whole "Garden State" thing makes more sense.

Don't know. Three years ago I took it to a different "friends" property. Because of leaving the lake house. He told me it died which was hard to believe since I had sweet potatoes at the lake house for years and neglected them and couldn't kill them.
So I went over and looked around and found one growing under a row of ligustrum
I pulled it out and didn't want to dig up the roots of the scrubs. So I took my slip and regrew it on the party porch.
It is one of the few plants that is a summer crop in Florida.

Glad you got to see the area! It really is beautiful here, unlike what the media portrays. Most visitors are surprised at how nice it is here in most areas. The vast majority of people are very friendly and helpful, even in the more built-up areas. I live just a bit east of where you drove through, and it doesn’t get really built-up until you get close to NYC.

Unfortunately, because we have a lot of big cities we have a great many liberals, and the foolish laws and high taxes that they impose on everyone.

Had to pick up blueberries in south Jersey. The town had flowers in every lawn and an American flag out front. Though I went to the 1950's it was so cool driving down that street. The southern part is different from Newark.

We have a forest behind our house which is lovely, and many creatures - raccoons, vols, moles, groundhogs, rabbits, wild turkeys. The other night I was out at sunset watching the coons come around and there were babies, so cute. Fireflies are everywhere, and at dusk it's amazing like there are little alien ships everywhere. Magic.

So yeah the bastard raccoons decimated the garden already. Them or the rabbits. Anyway, we had tomatoes and okra and beans and watermelon and they ate everything. I don't think raccoons did it for some reason. I think it was the rabbits.

I did contact the woman in the Forbes article and she is going to identify the variety for us.

Re: Anything but Roe thread. Post here if you don't want to talk about abortion.
In 2020, Dr Angela Alleyne, Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of the West Indies (UWI), conducted research on 15 varieties of sweet potato across five Caribbean countries, and identified several drought-tolerant varieties under commercial production in Dominica (“SDPW-01” and “SRDY-DOM”), Grenada (“Cricket Gill” and “Hucky”), Jamaica (“Ganja” and “Fire on Land”), and St. Lucia (“SSLYY”). These climate resilient varieties are an excellent choice for production as the region continues to experience more severe dry seasons.

From the Forbes article.
I emailed the Dr. and she said she would find out what variety we have.

3. “If it doesn’t swim, run, or fly, or isn’t green and grow in the ground, don’t eat it.”
