This is Weird, Help me With This...
I save certain things... I have my first pay stubs from McDonald's from 1992. Back when they paid a whopping $4.25 an hour and you got an employee meal as a job benefit.

I also saved all my glasses over the years. I'm 47 now and I've been putting off going to the eye doctor to get a new prescription.

I was messing around with all my old glasses yesterday and I found that one of my oldest pairs still works perfectly for me.

They are glass lenses which I prefer over plastic and I can see out of them perfectly. They are over 20 years old.

I wore them all day today with no problems....

It doesn't make any sense to me...

what exactly do you need help with?
you put off going to the eye doctor and now youve found glasses that you already own that work perfect.
what is the problem?

It's not a problem, I'm very happy. But why do my very old glasses still work perfectly for me? I was under the impression that it doesn't work that way. Aging and all...

My most recent prescription (Still old) is from Walmart and the lenses are plastic. I hate plastic lenses. I also found my sunglasses from 1994 (100 bucks back then) and they are a much higher quality than what you find today. Glass lenses, polarized and made in Italy.

Re: This is Weird, Help me With This...
I have had 20:550 vision most of my life.

Then I started supplementing with iodine. I was testing the Polarpure water purifier because everyone said the taste would be so bad that this would not be a viable prep for water emergencies.

I made a liter of the iodine water with it and drank it down after doing some yard work. It tasted WONDERFUL!

So for a few days I kept making a liter of water and drinking it in the middle of the day.

I was 52 years old and my vision had also gotten to where I needed trifocals as my eyes had lost the ability to adapt to near and far object focusing.

Then after taking the iodine for a while, I would get a sharp ZING pain in one or the other of my eyes. Had no idea what it was and it was just an instantaneous thing that would immediately subside. LIke someone snapped a rubber band in my eye lense.

AFter about 2 months of this, my glasses seemed to if anything be impairing my vision. I stopped wearing them around the house. Then I saw the eye doctor to see if I needed a new prescription. She said, did you have lasik surgery? Your eyes are almost 20:20. still have astigmatism but don't bother with the glasses anymore. I can see up close perfectly, and far away is still a little fuzzy, but not enough to want to wear glasses to fix it. And wearing glasses impairs vision, and were always needing cleaning several times a day to get skin oil off them etc.

Have not worn glasses for years now.

The zing I was feeling was the lenses beginning to move as the oxidative cross-links were breaking so the lense could move and adapt again. LIke if you are pulling on a rubber band the band breaks. ZING! The muscles surrounding the lense would be tugging at the lense to get it to change shape to focus, and suddely the lense would move, and the muscles would feel the snap and give the ZING sensation.

Oddly enough, that was not the most remarkable effect.
The iodine eliminated my brain fog. I was having trouble remembering words immediately. Brain is now fog free and works pretty much at 100% again. (maybe even a bit better).

Very few people today still wear "glasses". If the lenses are plastic, you aren't wearing glass.

I still like my root beer from glass bottles.

100% agree

My oldest pair of glasses, with glass lenses work so much better than the newer plastic lenses.

They suck. Hazy, micro scratches.. The frames are so much more comfortable and better quality too.

Same with headlight lenses.. My 90's vehicle lights are clearer, maybe not as bright as the new stuff, but I know it doesn't blind other drivers!

The body needs iodine for proper brain function and eyesight. The RDA amount is way too little. need at least 20 to 40 times the RDA.

I read someone here post that back in the 50's the public health people would actually give children iodine in certain parts of the country, known as the goiter belt (inland areas far from the ocean which can provide salt from seafood and sea spray. Perhaps this was before they started to iodize salt.

But they don't add enough to salt. And of course, doctors tell people not to eat salt now, yet ignore the danger of reduction in what little iodine people still get.
