United States of North America seems to implies that there's a country somewhere else that is named The United States of South America.

While this may be true on Paper. As a Citizen of the United States and you travel anywhere in the World they call you American.
From Mexico they call you Mexican
From Canada they call you Canadian
From South America they consider you to be what country you are from. I know people from several South American countries and they are adamant about what country they are from.

Only People from the Untied States of North America are called American has been that way for over two hundred Years
through out the world.

Not everyone. I don't believe I have once referred to our country or my birthplace as America. I've always referred to us as "the United States" or the US. Though, regarding my nationality, I do consider myself to be "American".

But, the official name of our country is, indeed, the "United States of America", singular not plural.

You do know the USA was the first country founded on both American continents. Mexico, Canada and every South American Country came to fruition in the 1800s or later.

America is just an abbreviation of US of A and is generally accepted as the colloquial term for the United States.

North America is the continent not the country... Canada is in North America genius.

That might get a little confusing with the other United States. As far as I know there are only 2 "United States" in the Américas but with both in North América it's easier to say América and México for short.
