So, OP. Question: If nobody knows the "name of the country", then what is it officially called in the World Factbook.. or any other official / common site? Or are those incorrect too?

Any source that states that the country of the United States is located in the continent of America is incorrect. That continent doesn't exist on paper just like the states of Dakota and Carolina don't exist.

It's an accepted abbreviation for a couple hundred years now but it's still an abbreviation.

Correct names:

The United States of North America

The United States of the Americas

Accepted abbreviated names:

The United States of America

America

You can be correct or you can follow the group think.

Probably the most divided country in the world and the citizens don't even know their country's name. Nothing "united" about this failed empire. Just a countdown to oblivion for a bunch of spoiled morons.

The "United States" only became "united" after two of the bloodiest wars in history so not everyone was on board. A lot like the natives that lived on this land. They weren't on board with the plan either.
