Strange TV-screen-like lightning over Florida

It's Pride Lightning, only seen in the month of June.

That was my first thought before watching it.

I hate to cut your enjoyment but it is rolling shutter effect with a camera probably in high fps like 60fps or iphone slomo, I've seen it myself many times in my own lightning recordings.

even cameras have to "scan" the screen to transmit pixels data, so the last pixel isn't recorded the exact same time as the first.

Not sure where this was filmed, but in Tampa last night there was weird lightening that caused ONLY the volume on my streaming TV to turn off during the flash of lightening. I didn't effect the video portion or the house lights did not flicker. Never seen that before and I have been through hundreds of storms. Lightening Capital of the World, Tampa.

The camera is glitching out because of the digital shutter causing a strobe effect.

Yes everybody has a camera. Can they they accurately record what we see. NO. Most cell phones can't.

Really, because I can find millions of lightning videos online recorded by all manner of camera, and none of them look anything like this.

I would like to know the cancer/illness rate of the area after the storm. Looks like a r@di@toon storm to me.

Its not real, its just the frame rate of the camera, you can see the same effect filming under strip lights and spin the camera around.

NTSC standard is 525 interlaced lines displayed at a rate of 29.97 frames per second. PAL (50HZ) and NTSC (60HZ), The 50 Hertz stands for on/off 50 times a second and 60 hertz is on/off 60 times a second, if for instance, you were to shoot a video using pal 1080i50, with a shutter speed of 1/50, in a place such as Canada using 60Hz LED lighting, you will likely experience flickering, same goes for the storm, the frequency and timing of the lighting was faster than the camera could handle.

I watched it. The lightening was directly over the Kennedy space center. I live on the space coast. NASA has sent up a few rockets as well. Everyone in this town is in on it. They are rich and they are happy as winners.

What if you could CONTROL Mother Nature's lightning flashes with a manmade grid-beam already being projected into the atmosphere?

If it where a shutter problem the houses and trees would be distorted as well, and the shutter runs vertical down the picture from end to end. But the effect is NOT the whole picture but only the sky.

Let's look at all the hundreds of lightning videos online with the shutter effect and see what they look like...

Been in FLA for 20 years,and I've never seen anything like the OP video.

I would hafta agree with those who say it's a camera malfunction/glitch.

I think I did see ball lightning once when Hurricane Frances passed by in 2004(?).

That's bizarre looking for sure. Was that thunder in the background I'm hearing?
