Can’t be more explicit than that. While I would hesitate to say there are no Muslims in greater South America, they are a minority in comparison to Catholics and other Christian groups with an unhealthy mix of more controversial groups which are splinters of the catholic faith.

Gangs are powerful there because they are imbedded in the local neighborhoods and have established a control on that local population with fear and violence. They are no where near strong enough to bring civil war to the country and too busy fighting among themselves over control of the respective neighborhoods they were born into.

As for economics, they are a small country yet control much of the coca industry around the world. The GDP is close to 60 billion dollars a year and they lead the world in income equality, most are able to live the same lives as their neighbors economically unlike the US. They are also the first country to adopt Bitcoin as the official currency, which is pretty progressive rightly or wrongly only more time will tell.
