It just happened when I posted the news. Details will follow.
They'll probably cancel the entire 3 day show. They always do when this happens. It takes years to plan and one accident cancels everything.

The truck was racing two planes, going up to 300 miles per hour. As the parachute from the truck deployed, the truck engulfed in flames and exploded.

I've seen that truck quite a few times and have even met the driver.

That’s what I thought when I read it. Look at the video, that’s exactly what happened. Looks like a pyrotechnic went up then the truck crashed.

With all the shit going on in the world, this needs to be pinned because one person died at an air show?

He had a blowout as his chute was deploying. He was in my town at an airshow just a couple of months ago. I got to get a good look at his truck. He uses super singles on the rear axles instead of traditional duals. Looks like the right rear tire blew, as you can see debris leaving the truck as his drag chute is pulling out the main chute. You can see a fire on the back of the truck right before he starts to drift to the left as he is approaching the pyrotechnic routine. Those super single tread caps are extremely heavy and when they separate from the carcass at that speed they destroy everything in their path. The fire was probably from the lower right jet engine being destroyed by the tread cap, as it is mounted only a few inches away and has very little protection from flying debris.

An enormous truck traveling 300 to 350 mph ? It sounds dangerous before knowing about any explosions. Jet engines are made for the sky... Don’t see the benefit of the risks.

Maybe it’s a man thing, but speeding enormous sized trucks ?? A racing boat would make more sense. Little children playing with big expensive toys.

My mistake. Upon closer look, it was the LEFT REAR tire that blew out first, then the one in front of it went next. You can clearly see the left rear fender disintegrating before he loses control.

So the purpose is to race the jets? I've been to air shows but never saw that performance.

What exactly would have caused that to happen?

Wheel clearly came off. Those tires don’t come with a rating and are custom for land speed records.

Fuel line ruptured, blew the tire(s) (tires specifically designed for this truck) out.

I especially like watching the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels. Many years ago we watched the Italian aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force....The Frecce Tricolori. If anyone here gets a chance to see them perform, it's a real treat!

By the way, these were on the schedule. No one at an airshow expects a horrible accident. Accidents are very rare at airshows.
