Makes no sense. I was born in 79. I've seen sites say people born in 1980/82 are millennials.. How the fk does that even make sense.. WE grew up with def leopard, motley crue, nirvana-grunge.. Our parents were considered boomers.. Millennials are more likely grandkids to boomers. At earliest born in 1998...

Y'all got all of them wrong. Millennials, as a point of info, are those that "came of age" around 2000. Not "born" in 2000. So here's the actual rundown...

Boomers 1945 -1959... they came of age during the late 60s and their zeitgeit was the drug fueled, hedonistic, late 60s to mid 79s

generation Jones is a small subset of GenX 1960-1965 - they remember the moon shot, never got into the drug hippie shit and their zeitgeist is the 80s and very early 90s

GenX - 1960/1965 - 1984 - they grew up under Reagan, the go-go 80s and their zeitgets is solid 90s to 2000. They were most affected as young adults by the housing crisis. They remember the world before TECH, rotarty phones and understand they have been screwed.

Millennials - born 1985/1987 to 2000 - zeigeist 2008 (Obama), every has to be fair, entitlement and BLM activism. Most often kids of Boomers.

GenZ - born 1998 to 2008 - zeigeist - social media, cancel culture, they are the backlash to this crap. More conservative than Millennials. They are most often kids of GenX.

A generation used to be considered 25 years but it dropped to 20 years. It has never been 12 years.

I always figured it as: Gen X - born to boomers, 60’w & 70’s. Then Gen Y - born 80’s & 90’s. But Gen Y was forgotten and renamed Millennials. But Mills were supposedly born 90’s and into 2000’s.

Now is Gen Z. I’d say born from 2010 onward. But others say they are older…

My kids born in 82 and 87 very little difference in ideology. One of them told me about GLP. The other is an occasional user of GLP for breaking news only. You are confusing millennials and gen-z also called zoomers. Most millenials are mid-thirties.

A generation is roughly 20 years.

Millenials, for statistical studies (varies slightly), is typically considered 1981-2000.

A good question is what collective trauma did this generation face?

Boomers heard of Kennedy assassination, reported by the radio news.

Gen-X witnessed the Challenger exploding on late night news.

Millenials witnessed 9/11 on live tv news.

Zoommers saw the Pandemic roll out via their pocket news smart phones.

Tech they grew up with is another way to think about it.

They say millenials still use a phone as a phone and make calls, gen-zers only text or social media message, gen-xers love their email, and boomers have adapted well to facebook as a way to reconnect to long lost pals.

Millenials remember a world before the internet and are thus almost obsessed with the nostalgia of the early 90s, zoomers collective consciousness exist almost entirely on the internet, gen-xers use the internet for profits and porn, most boomers use it to poke people on Facebook.

These are easy concepts to understand, I hope this helps clear up some confusion.

Millenials are often hated because of the actions of the zoomers, which is unfair. They are also expected to have accomplished the same as gen-xers which is also unfair since the world permanently has changed and been at war since 9/11.

Boomers fail to grasp that the country and currency is circling the toilet drain and they saw everything at its peak and had the most opportunities to amass wealth. They sunk the ship and set up their kids, millenials, to be as narcissistic as they are. Except the millenials need to make 100k now just to live a life even remotely similar to how the boomers lived and most have been extremely humbled by this. Millenials also seem to get along best with the generations before and after them.

I feel mostly bad for the boomers and zoomers, they are the least self-actualized due to most of their life being pretty stable with few challenges. Millenials and gen-xers had their entire worlds turned upside down between 9/11 and the housing and .com bubbles.

Most millenials I know are hard working and trying to improve their lives and care about others. This cannot be said about the zoomers who are literally dumb as rocks due to their smart phones.

We were the first group of high school kids to do research for papers both online and in an old-fashioned card catalogue, which many millennials have never even heard of by the way (I know because I asked my 21-year-old intern and he started stuttering about library cards).

Because we had one foot in the traditional ways of yore and one foot in the digital information age, we appreciate both in a way that other generations don’t. We can quickly turn curmudgeonly in the face of teens who’ve never written a letter, but we’re glued to our smartphones just like they are.

Those born in the late 70s and early 80s were the last group to have a childhood devoid of all the technology that makes childhood and adolescence today pretty much the worst thing imaginable. We were the last gasp of a time before sexting, Facebook shaming, and constant communication.
