Major fire in Saint-Hyacinthe: more than 1,000 pigs are believed to have died

Three fires broke out in the space of just a few hours Monday afternoon in the Saint-Hyacinthe region, one of which would have killed more than 1,000 pigs.

According to employees, nearly 1,200 animals were burned alive during the disaster, the cause of which remains unknown.

At the height of the fire, a huge plume of black, opaque smoke was visible for tens of kilometers around.
