Memorial day we were still fairly busy close to normal. This 4th of July week is the slowest I have ever seen in my life. Some old timers been here 50 years and they can not believe how slow it was this last week. Usually balls to the wall all week. I myself have never seen stores so empty and roads so empty for a fourth of July weekend. Usually it's traffic jams and bumper to bumper. I drove home at 70mph yesterday same all weekend. It is SHOCKING how fast the brakes have been slammed on. This is scary shit. Quoting: Fred Allen I think there may be something more to this than just the economy and 4th of July. I have been making some observations over the last 3 months of traveling throughout the Midwest. There appears to be a dramatic decrease in the population. I have never seen cities so empty. Even worse than the covid lockdowns. It's a sign of US decline. US being land of everybody has very large population for whom 4th of July means nothing and the people who used to care don't care anymore because US failed them. |

As a contractor doing home remodels and improvements i have never been this busy. Booked out 4 months and bidding jobs everyday. My prices have almost doubled from 6 months ago. People keep accepting my bids. I'm hiring also. Paying 30 or hr for skilled carpenters and 20 for unskilled laborers. I've hired 2 in last 7 days. I have 2 more showing up to job site tomorrow for interview. Louisville KY construction is booming. |

I'm sure that in major population centers it is less noticeable, but in small to medium sized areas the decline in street traffic, restaurant customers, and kids playing outside is obvious. Just think about how things looked in 2019, or better yet find some old pictures and compare to how things are now. I'm not sure if people are scared to go outside, to depressed, or not alive; but I can tell you there are significantly less people. |
