Calling guns, you don’t like “military grade” or “military style” only reveals how ignorant you are.
Civilian Firearms are very different in function than "military grade" firearms. The civilian AR15 carbine/rifle looks like the "military grade" M16a2 or in some case the "military grade" M4 carbine/rifles, though its function is quite a bit different. The civilian AR15 in performance is not expected to meet or exceed rigorous military expectations and cannot perform the same functions as a military grade firearm. The military style rifles like the M16a2 can fire Between 3 round burst (3 rounds fired with a single trigger press) and fully automatic (all rounds fired with a single trigger press) while the civilian AR15 is only capable of shooting one round per trigger squeeze.

The U.S. military have MIL-STD (military standard) & MIL-SPEC (military specifications) documents that specify the battery of tests that a weapon has to pass in order to be accepted for military use. There is no weapon that is available and is legal for the public to own that is even close to being on par with a rifle used by our military forces or one that could meet the MIL-STD.

The proper term for a civilian AR-15 is actually “MSR” or “Modern Sporting Rifle”.

All my AR's are far beyond mil spec and completely legal.

Milspec is the bare minimum to make a functioning gun in a disturbing number of ways.

Mil spec is the cheapest part that passes testing. Cheap AR15s may advertise mil spec, but anyone with any knowledge wouldnt buy those 600$ guns. Most of us only choose Match Grade, which is the highest quality parts available regardless of price. My m16a2 and m4 in the military would make a 3" group at 100 yards at best. My match grade DMR rifle will shoot a 3/8" group at 100 yards. I can fire a 20 round mag at 100 yards and cover the group up with a quarter. Its got 2600$ in parts though. No military is buying the average foot soldier 2600$ rifles.

Unlike bigsby up there though I actually have the key technical data packages, have the relevant mil standards in PDF from, have built my own units more than a few times, and am even working on a project for a new belt fed based on an old design which should have won the SAW competition that will make 5.56 and 7.62 NATO belt feds affordable for the masses.

It's looking like if I'm careful I should be able to keep this belt fed in the under $2000 range even low rate built in my basement production numbers.
