(OP) User ID: 27150632 United States 07/06/2022 07:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Web is full of fake sites its almost worthless anymore to look up anything. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83752578 Even if you get to a forum all you find is people from 10 years ago telling you to "search google" Yes -- precisely what I'm getting at. It seems like the AI generated pages would be for ad revenue purposes, but part of me wonders if it's not just part of an effort to "dumb down the web" and hence the people too. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80170810 United States 07/06/2022 07:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, it has sucked for several years now, but now it’s almost useless. I have to run several searches worded multiple different ways to find anything. I assume much of it is deliberate to hide any and all information. But adding to it is how everything tech is designed nowadays to think for the user yet does a poor job of it. And heaven forbid you search for something that happens to have the same name as the latest popular tv show/movie/nearby restaurant/latest trendy thing, because you’ll never be able to find the other thing you were actually looking for. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83784509 United States 07/06/2022 07:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I find Gibiru is often helpful when other search engines are just putting out garbage. Gibiru isn't a very good general everyday search engine, but it often gives me good results for more obscure searches or for search topics that give very biased results using normal search engines. It also has a "uncensored" feature you can click on where it compares Gibiru's own search results with the results given by the other main search engines and it only displays results the other search engines are not showing you. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 82374058 United Kingdom 07/06/2022 07:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | e, the Bay started showing faulty results circa 2008. By 2010, it was a mess! Today, it's even worse, as they long removed the BOOLEAN searches everywhere! So, search for i dunno, blue trading cards, and it displays brown pants. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80750774 Google been a mess for a few years now. Ecosia & Duck Duck go, very limited in results. Yandex is foreign, so! Amazon does the same. Search for something and get completely different results. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80750774 Google been a mess for a few years now. Ecosia & Duck Duck go, very limited in results. Yandex is foreign, so! Amazon does the same. Search for something and get completely different results. I get way better results on Amazon by doing a search on DuckDuck and restricting the search to amazon only results. Amazon's internal search engine is almost worthless. I can even type in an actual product number and get nothing but garbage results, but that same part number into another search engine and give a link to the product on amazon as the first result. I have the same issues with Walmart's website but it isn't nearly as bad as Amazon. Amazon's internal search is basically just, "which somehwat related generically branded made in China product would you like us to force into your lap today." Ebay can be annoying if you don't realize how much they are curating the results for you and bypass those functions yourself. Ebay also doesn't work with the standard boolean operators like AND, OR, NOT, but those features can be duplicated by using- string of search terms duplicates the function of AND "search term" searches for exact phrase or title (search term, search term) does the function of OR -search term does the function of NOT |

The web is full of AI generated garbage now and the algos are pushing crap to the top. It's basically for anything and everything you search for. Not just limited to conspiracy / alternative media. Yep and try looking up contrarian news or info... the first 20 pages talk of how thats conspiracy... yea... agenda... lol |

Hard to say when search engines quit doing the only job they were supposed to do but I've noticed lately you can tell how bad it's getting by a matter of days even. Blah blah blah so far I'm calling yandex and pre search as the current best engines even though they too leave a lot to be desired. Unholy war you will get, you can bet, the US is the great satan |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83810792 United States 07/06/2022 08:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes. Quite awhile ago already, when I could no longer find any of the very man unbelievably brutal, ruthless, vicious, bloodthirsty, savage accounts of the routine tortures and murders that were committed by the wonderful Native Americans, I realized things were changing. The Information Superhighway was an awesome thing for a short time but it's gone. |
