The world used to be divided between the free West and the unfree East. Later only the USA was a free country. Now half of the US hates freedom. Soon just Southern New Hampshire will be free. Later the Libertarians will need to buy a sailboat to be free or flee and scatter to the Sahara, Siberia, and the Amazon and wait to be hunted down by tyrannical Nazis and Commies.

Apathy

Apathy, by far. Ironically, apathy can often be a reaction to dispelling one's ignorance and learning the morbid, overwhelming truth about reality. Imagine having fought so hard to obtain hidden knowledge, honing it into wisdom, and then suddenly having your will to live crushed from your still-beating heart. Imagine the torture of being able to do almost anything you set your mind towards, but never having the desire to do it. The only thing you want is to want. Life spent in this enfeebled state is not worth living.

Freedom of the American caliber has as an absolute requirement, intelligence, proactive behavior, an innate suspicion of your own government, community self-sufficiency / small-government power, and implicit TRUST of your fellow countrymen. Trust of this nature can only be accomplished with a shared spirit of comradeship and fundamental ethics that supercede your ethnic or political affiliations. In other words, we must be Americans before we are anything else, even if we disagree on almost everything.

Americans don't realize that they shouldn't pick and choose which rights are good or not. The Bill of Rights is a package deal. You either believe in freedom or don't. Americans shouldn't say they hate free speech, but then turn around and say they love gun rights. Americans sound like hypocrites when they scream wiretapping is fine, but torture is bad.

Watching Americans using mental gymnastics to explain their talking points and hypocrisy is difficult to watch today.

Americans scream Obama was an evil monster for embracing war, debt, and tyranny, but then Americans turn around and insist Trump is a holy god for supporting war, debt, and the police state.

The same Americans who love the free market scream closed borders turned North Korea into a stunning success.
