From my point of view, the explosion (and quick destruction of crime scene, etc) is the sign that the "new power" (Klaus, Gates, Soros, etc) is openly challenging the "old power" (the ones that put the 40+ year monument up) and letting all the "old power" know that their days are numbered and they will be eliminated.

I see it as them removing evidence of their long term goals.
The Guidestones were a proclamation of their goals, now that it is actually happening they want to get rid the evidence that it was all planned in advance.
