NASA shares spectacular 'teaser' image captured by its James Webb Space Telescope – ahead of the eagerly-awaited release of its first

NASA has shared a 'teaser' image ahead of next week's eagerly-anticipated release of the first deep-space pictures from its James Webb Space Telescope.

The $10 billion (£7.4 billion) observatory was launched to look back in time to the dawn of the universe and to capture what happened just a couple of hundred million years after the Big Bang.

Its first science-quality pictures are due to be released to the public on July 12 but the US space agency has provided an engineering test photo as a little sneak preview.

The image is the result of 72 exposures over 32 hours and shows a set of distant stars and galaxies.

It has some 'rough-around-the-edges' qualities, NASA said in a statement, but is still 'among the deepest images of the universe ever taken', and offers a 'tantalising glimpse' at what will be revealed in the coming weeks, months, and years.

'When this image was taken, I was thrilled to clearly see all the detailed structure in these faint galaxies,' said Neil Rowlands, program scientist for Webb's Fine Guidance Sensor at Honeywell Aerospace.

Complete with a "Starlite Filter Lens" no less.

Going Hollywood to get their believers on board I guess.

They've lost all credibility for me.

Yep.... even 'if' this pic or the history is real... imo, you could look into the dark areas forever and it would bring out more and more.
I think most of us would agree that the idea of infinity is mind blowing, Esp in space etc.
I think the big bang is a bs theory, just something for intellectuals to measure from as they cannot handle anything else....

I have no idea how it all began, but, I seriously doubt thd official line as it comes from 'they' and 'they' are full of shite and falsehood to hide any truth to further their agenda and line their pockets!

I really wanted to believe it, but it's impossible once you understand the level of corruption in these government agencies.

I also took some amazing images of space, also equally impossible to test if they are real, and it didn't cost me a penny.

So you don't understand diffraction spikes. Got it. For the rest of us, the hexagonal mirror segments and truss structure supporting the secondary mirror are the reasons for the diffraction spikes. It's not a filter.

Not impossible. Give me the coordinates of your images and I'll see if I can photograph the same objects. Oh you faked it and you don't even have coordinates? Too bad. The targets of the first JWST images have been released and they all have known coordinates. I used that info to photograph one of them myself this morning, Stephan's Quintet.

Once the JWST image is released I can overlay it on top of my image and see if it's a match for that galaxy cluster or not.

Herr Derrrrr. You missed it entirely.

No one suggested that NASA cares at all about a few thinking people. Let that sink in a bit so you understand.

NASA "speaks" to the brainwashed masses the same way your politicians do.

BTW, don't miss the point of a post again by thinking that I'm suggesting NASA engineers and scientists do not know what they are doing. Quite the opposite is true. They know exactly what they are doing and are experts in their fields.
