BTW, the old claim that 90% would die in a grid down lasting 12 mths came from a Congressional study panel on EMP's. so not just some # preppers or Hollywood made up.

anyone ever hear how close TX outage came to a total disaster? 4 min 37 sec. after that it would have been down for weeks.

is this a mandela effect? i was watching a documentary. it claims the big power outage of 2003 was caused by a tree or vine brushing against the wires. i thought i heard a squirrel in Canada did it.

We must have been watching the same one with Dennis.
Although probably would have been a better commercial for the products they were selling if it were Randy.

I always heard they blamed it on an Ohio Squirrel.

Cyborg Soldier 2050: Human/Machine Fusion and the Implications for the Future of the DOD

At the direction of the BHPC Executive Committee, the BHPC study group conducted a year-long assessment entitled “Cyborg Soldier 2050: Human/Machine Fusion and the Impact for the Future of the DOD”. The primary objective of this effort was to forecast and evaluate the military implications of machines that are physically integrated with the human body to augment and enhance human performance over the next 30 years. This report summarizes this assessment and findings; identifies four potential military-use cases for new technologies in this area; and assesses their impact upon the DOD organizational structure, warfighter doctrine and tactics, and interoperability with U.S. allies and civil society.

Superhumans: Implications of Genetic Engineering and Human-Centered Bioengineering

Humans have long pursued different ways to improve themselves and gain advantages, whether through information, technology, or physical enhancement. Recent advances in genetic engineering and human-centered bioengineering (which covers more than cyborgs) offer unprecedented capabilities for humans to modify and enhance themselves. This report describes recent advances in these areas of research, and identifies implications for the US military, as these technologies arrive in the hands, figuratively and literally, of the average person.

A HOMEMADE FALLOUT METER, THE KFM HOW TO MAKE AND USE IT

The KFM (Kearny Fallout Meter) was developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It is understandable, easily repairable, and as accurate as most civil defense fallout meters. In the United States in 1976 a commercially available ion chamber fallout meter that has as high a range as a KFM for gamma radiation dose-rate measurements retailed for $600.

I first read about those in the novel "War Day," and how you can fashion a crude one with normal household items and ingredients.

If you haven't read that book, I highly recommend it. It's portrayal of a limited nuclear war between Russia (USSR in the book) and the US is extremely accurate, in my opinion.

Lake Wobegon

"Morning light, soft and bright,
Wobegon reveals
Early frost lies across
Farm and woods and fields
Coffee done, I’ll have some.
Step outdoors alone.
Look around, sit me down
On a slab of stone.
By the barn, cattle turn
Murmur in the pen.
Strong and pure cow manure,
I know where I am,
I know where I am.
I am home again.

Precious Lord, by your word
Simple gifts are blest
Creatures all, great and small,
Heav’nly love express.
Love and faithfulness.
Let the promise of salvation
Come by daily observation
In this farmyard, Lord. Be with us.
My old dog takes his walk,
Sniffling ev’ry tree.
Ev’ry smell seems to tell
His biography.
Chickens dash ‘cross the grass,
Cats patrol the yard.
Seven geese marching east
Form and honor guard."

Hugh G. We are all "waiting for GOD". I am one of George Carlin's greatest fans about religion. This was about GOD. This series, season one is just a primer and it is a bit of an informational slog, gave me an insight that I never had in over seven decades and it did it with surprising humour. If you are a numbers person, it rated at over 9 on IMDb.

"There will come a time, when this will become far more difficult, when persecution is an ever present part of your ministry. When that time comes, you will follow in my footsteps, and you will know what it actually means to give up your life" Season 3 "two by two" Humour disarms people. Matthew is close to my heart. Maybe its seeing my one year old grandson grow.
